The car jerked into park. Osiris wasted no time getting out of the car slamming the door shut and walking briskly into the two story cabin.

Desmond turned around in the drivers seat to look at me with a look of exasperation. "Ignore him, he sucks at small talk."

I looked at the closed cabin door then make to Desmond. "That was small talk?"

"No, those were orders. I'm just forewarning you he sucks at small talk, when he does talk."

He hopped out of the car closing his door before opening mine for me. He held out his hand for me to take, I hesitated at first before he offered me a warm smile that soothed my nerves. Taking his hand I hopped out and let him guide me inside the cabin.

There was no sight of Osiris when we entered and I was relieved to see that there also was no one inside. The absence of people allowed me to relax enough to look around.

There was a wooden staircase right in front of us when we entered, a table opposite of it stood snug against the wall with a single dusty looking lamp on top. There was a large door way next to it and as I stepped further inside I noticed a tan leather sofa. It was a living room from the looks of it. Across from the sofa was an unlit fireplace and on both sides of it were selves built into the walls.

There were books upon books upon books on every shelf. They must have been for show because I couldn't imagine these two reading them, but then again I wouldn't see the reason for them to have all of them. Someone had to have read them at some point I thought.

My attention was brought back up to Desmond when he grabbed my hand. His touch was gentle, it was an odd thing seeing as his hands were massive compared to my own. The gentleness felt out of place, those hands looked like they could break bone from a single flex.

They could break my hand in a single squeeze.

No, no, he wouldn't do that. I was his mate. Mate's don't harm mate's, I reminded myself. It was physically impossible. He'd walk away before laying a hand on me.

He smiled down at me and every thought I had of him harming me flew out the window. I couldn't lie to myself he was charming with his brown eyes, tall height, skin kissed skin, and broad muscular chest. His black suit hid most of it but I could still make out the muscles in his arms perfectly.

"Come on, let me show you to your room." He said leading me up the stairs. There was shadow by one of the doors down the hall as we started up the stairs. It was so brief I thought it was the trick of the eyes but the shuffle of papers confirmed my thoughts.

Distracted, I didn't noticed Desmond stopping and accidentally bumped into his husky back with an "ohf".

"Sorry." I apologized stepping back quickly when he turned to look down at me. He was going to be mad, he was going to yell at me for being clumsy. Now he would reject me. I'd given him an out now.

"It's okay, relax." He chuckled opening the door to a room. "This is your room."

I couldn't help but furrow my eyebrows together, didn't mates stay in the same room and sleep in the same bed?

Noticing my bewilderment Desmond looked nervous rubbing the back of his neck. "I thought until you get acclimated around here that you'd want to have room to yourself. I didn't want to make you uncomfortable."

I couldn't help the tiny grin that tugged at the corner of my lips. He didn't want to make me uncomfortable? He wanted me to get use to everything? This couldn't be real, this had to be a dream.

"Thank you." I smiled making my way inside.

The room was dark. Desmond clicked the switch just inside the room and the room came to life. The room was smaller than I expected but it was cozy and gave me a sense of security. There was a single window straight ahead that over looked the other cabins. A small full size bed was snug against the corner of the room, next to it stood a bedside table with an old alarm clock and a single lamp. There was a door half the size of a regular door opposite of the bed, which I presumed was the closet.

"Will this be okay for you?" Desmond piped up. I nodded my head slowly turning around to face him. "Good. The bathroom is across the hall, no one else uses that bathroom so it'll basically be yours."

"Okay." I replied after a long, rather awkward, pause.

"Okay, then." He clapped his hands together. "I'll leave you to unpack and settle in. Breakfast is  downstairs at seven everyday. If you need anything my room is the second to last one down the hall." He closed the door leaving me in the silence of my room.

I walked over to my bed setting my backpack on it and stretching my arms up above my head. My back was tight from the hours of sitting in the car. Sitting on the bed I suddenly felt exhausted. The trip was hours here and from the why the sun had dipped below the horizon I knew it was nearly nightfall.

I tossed my backpack to the floor dusting off the blanket and climbing under the covers. The deep purple blanket was thicker than I thought it'd be.

I unclipped my bra dropping next to my bag before slipping out of my pants. I twisted the knob on the lamp turning it off and pulled the blanket up to my neck.

The moon was just barely peeking through the clouds, casting a sheer glow through the tiny window.

I sighed thinking over all of the events of today. Nothing went as planned or even close to what I imagined it would go, but I wasn't disappointed. It wasn't necessarily a good day per say but I wouldn't call it a bad day by any means.

Closing my eyes I caught a glimpse of a shadow under the crack of the door, my heart sped up. It shocked me at first but it didn't linger for long as whoever it was moved along leaving me to finally relax enough to fall asleep.
