Helion helped me sit up, as the hollowness gripped my chest. He pressed the glass to my slips and forced half of the glass down my throat. Only stopping when my face went red from lack of air. He whispered, "You scared the hell out of us."
I nodded my head, then sat down to cup it in my hands. The hollowness was easing up, yet it was still a steady bearing presence. I whispered, my hollow voice hoarse, "I'm sorry."
My voice cracked on the last part, as tears streamed down my face. Helion pulled me up, wiping my tears away. He flinched and we looked out of the open flapped tent to see a fiery raging angel of death destroy the last Hybern ship in sight.
"We need to go down there." Helion murmured. He glanced back to me with a questionable look on his face. I looked destroyed, I knew it, I looked like I'd survived hell only to wish I died in it. He whispered, "Are you okay?"
I nodded and he asked, "Do you mind explaining why you bear the mark of the mother?" I glanced down, I was in my guarded boots, leather armored pants, a white cotton shirt, and the armored elven jacket. The jacket and shirt revealed and showed the bargain tattoo to all who would look.
I nodded and scrambled to explain quickly, "While I was stuck in the chess piece in spirit form, the Mother reached out. She demanded I be her champion, in exchange she would protect my sisters."
He nodded but glanced me over once more, I mumbled in a fit of shock. "I apparently had two mates."
"Most champions tend to, in history it is very common." Helion murmured using the damp cloth to clean off the rest of the blood from my neck and face. I whispered in a fit of shock, "My mate was in that blast.'
He paused, pulling back slightly before continuing to wipe away the blood. He whispered, "It'll all be okay."
He pulled me up and I tied the jacket off covering the tattoo. Helion winnowed us down to the rocky cliffs where the cauldron sat in three pieces. Fuck. It was a giant gaping whole, like the universe had been ripped open. Feyre saw me first and leaped to me, we wrapped one another in a tight embrace.
But my sister spoke grimly, "We have to fix it." The bargain mark tugged under my jacket, and I rubbed it with my hand. You will go where I need you to go. Rhysand nodded, "We flood all of our power into it, to piece it back together."
"It won't work." My voice was as dead as a grave. Rhysand's head whipped to me, and he snarled. "We have to try."
"We do." I agreed, then I saw the Originals. They had been in the battle, and I didn't even see them. I stepped forward toward the broken pieces and the black hole portal in the center of the pieces. "But someone needs to hold it together."
Feyre snapped, gripping my arm with all of her might. "No."
I glanced at Helion, and he pulled Feyre's hand away from my arm. She whirled to him, then back to me. "You can't."
It was the translucent woman who spoke, "She doesn't have a choice."
Everyone turned to her, there was a girl on her left, and an old crone on her right. No one moved, or spoke. Other than Nesta who declared, "You are her," Rhysand turned to her, his face littered with uncertainty and confusion. "You are the Mother."
Beron snorted, but the three females grinned and unleashed themselves. Beron's face paled, and the Mother spoke, "Do you question, the god who hold your life in her hands?"
"My father was merely doubtful," Eris spoke quickly. "We meant no offense Mother, it is usually the priestesses who you appear to."
She nodded, accepting the answer. The Mother divided into the girl, the woman, and the crone again. Feyre's gaze slid between me and the Mother. The woman explained, "While she was still dead, I forced a bargain on her." Rhysand's face paled as I silently backed away from the fae. The girl continued, a younger, more sassy voice. "She would become my champion, in exchange I would give her three sisters my protection and blessing."
Feyre's face became the color of a white sheet. Rhsyand wrapped an arm around her in fear she might faint. The girl continued setting a finger on her lip, "She didn't really know that she would be revived at the time, so it was more of a win-win situation for me. Fate works in strange ways doesn't he?"
Feyre turned to me, and gripped my wrists with her hands. "Please don't go," tears streamed down her face, while mine was stone cold. "You said we wouldn't get separating again."
"I will go where she needs me to go. Because as long as I do you, Nesta, Elain and your mates and families will be safe." I declared stiffly. She wept, "Please, Kana, don't go."
I glanced up toward the fae. Summer, Spring, Winter, Autumn, Day, Dawn, and Night all stared me down. Sympathy lined most of their gazes. Beron had a look of arrogance on his face, yet even Eris seemed to realize that I would be gone. Darwyn glared from beside Rhysand shaking his head.
Nesta and Elain stood by Feyre's side, their eyes help the sadness and truth of begging trying to get me to stay. Kissing the top of Feyre's hair, I spoke, "My knight."
I kissed Elain's cheek, "My bishop," I turned to Nesta and wrapped her in my arms. Kissing her cheek, "My Rook, my twin."
I glanced to Darwyn once more, extending my hand toward him. He stepped forward and gripped my freezing fingers between his warm ones. "Do you remember the name I picked for Dione?"
Tears lined my brother's face, "I'll never forget it."
I nodded and claimed, "Take care of Prythian for me while I'm gone."
My sisters sniffed, hiding their dejection. I said, loud enough for all to hear. "In the beginning and in the end there is darkness, nothing more."
Feyre weeped, as Nesta had her hand on her shoulder, and her other arm wrapped around the silently crying Elain. I declared raising my chin, "For the good of All."
My sisters echoed the sentiment. With another look at everyone, I requested, "When I get back let's not have a repeat of this."
A few of them chuckled slightly, while the others were too overcome by their sorrow. I dipped my chin, "It was an honor, one I hope to experience again."
With that I turned on my heel, leaving my sisters, their mates, the Night Court, Rask. Essa Aethra Thea Brangwen, Winter, Summer, Spring, Day, Dawn, and Autumn Courts behind. I stepped through the black portal.
Leaving my world behind, and stepping into the next.
