Chapter 17 - The return of friends and memories

"(Y/N)? What are you doing up?"

looking up at Kix on the other side of the bed I gave him a side smile and a shrug,

"I woke up a bit too early and decided to get some work done in the hangar."

nodding at me he looked down at his datapad and then up at Rex again,

"Well you can get some sleep, Rex ol' boy here will probably be out for a while longer."

I giggled at the nickname and raised an eyebrow at him. His eyes widened slightly as he rushed out an explanation,

"I heard Commander Cody say it once but don't tell Rex I called him that! Cody is the only one that's actually allowed..."

giggling more at him I motioned for him to calm down with my hand,

"Don't worry Kix, your secret's safe with me."

he let out a breath and smiled at me,

"Good. But in all seriousness (Y/N), get some sleep. If you don't I have a few sedatives ready to be used."

and with that he walked out to tend to another trooper. I glanced down at Rex's helmet before looking at his face. It was completely relaxed but the persistent flashes from my nightmares kept painting it in blood and bruises. Standing up from the chair I put his helmet down on it and turned to look at him again. I would be lying if I didn't say that this tension between us was really bugging me. Whatever was going on before was really nice and I enjoyed those small quiet moments we shared together. When we were alone and we could just enjoy each others presence. Sighing I carefully placed a hand on his warm cheek and rubbed my thumb along his cheekbone,

"I know your vitals are stable and all but... please be okay. Things are a little tough at the moment and-- I don't want to lose you Rex."

knowing that he wasn't going to respond I just kept my focus on his closed eyes,

"With the dream I had I guess I'm just a little extra worried for you. I don't know what happened between us but, I want you to be okay. Your brothers need you, Anakin and Ahsoka need you."

there was no idea in lying to him, he was unconscious so he wouldn't hear me anyways,

"...I need you."

the last words caused a lump to form in my throat as the nightmare kept replaying in my head. Trying to swallow and make it go away I bowed my head down, almost like I was ashamed of breaking down so easily. Shaking my head I took a deep breath and leaned down to give him a feathery kiss on his forehead. Hesitating afterwards with my head hovering close to his I whispered one final time,

"Please be okay."

pulling away and walking out the door to let him rest I could feel the grip on my heart tighten with anxiety. Clearing my throat and taking a few calm breaths, I went to the room where Ahsoka would be in. Upon my entry I saw Anakin sitting in the chair next to her medical bed. Smiling warmly at Ahsoka, I walked up the right side of her and sat down on the edge of her bed. She was sitting up and seemed as energetic as she usually did. Smiling brightly at me she chirped up,

"Hey (Y/N), how was your time with Wolffe?"

chuckling at her I shrugged,

"It was okay, not much happened. But what I really want to hear is what you were up to on Naboo. You were going on about some underground bunker and deadly virus that infected you! I mean it's a miracle that you're still alive!"

getting riled up about her and the others safety I turned my upper body to Anakin to point accusingly at him,

"And YOU! She is your padawan! How come you didn't get infected?! I'm gone for ONE mission and look what happens! I am NOT staying on the cruiser next time you have a mission!"
