"And, done," I say, slumping back in my chair. Prying off my headphones, I hand them to the dark haired boy on my right. "Listen to this," I request. He takes them without hesitation and fits them over his ears, scooting forward to analyze the track I had just made.
I roll my chair backward a bit before I get up and stretch my arms over my head, letting my back crack. Turning around, I slowly trudge my way to the back of the room where one of the university's several mini fridges sit and open the door to grab out four bottles of water, one for each member of our group project.
Shutting the door, I call over to the two others sitting on the couch. "Catch." I throw the bottles and one manages to catch theirs, while the other bottle somehow shuts the other's laptop. The girl scowls at me and I give her a guilty smile. She rolls her eyes, tucks a strand of fiery hair behind her ear, and opens her laptop again muttering a small 'thank you'.
I amble my way back to my rolling chair and plop down heavily, grunting slightly from the hard impact. I place one of the remaining bottles in front of the boy who still has his eyes glued to the screen and he gives me a small nod in thanks as I lean back in my chair, opening my bottle and downing the contents.
As I wait for the boy to finish listening and editing the new piece of music, I let my gaze wander around the rest of the recording studio before settling on the boy and girl sitting beside each other on the couch. "How's it coming guys?"
"Ehh, pretty decent. I've almost finished the last part of the bridge. Then I'll go back and try to pair it with one of my stored tracks to see if it'll fit the style," the red head responds, her eyes never leaving the screen in front of her.
When the man beside her lifts his head to respond, I can see exhaustion written across his entire face. "I wish I could say the same," he started. "But unfortunately it's not going too well."
I stretch my hand forward in invitation and he hands me the laptop. I scan through the lyrics that fill the screen from top to bottom. Not seeing any error, I turn my head back to look quizzically at the man in distress.
"This looks fine to me? I don't see a problem with the lyrics and the message is great, so what's wrong?"
"It's the flow of the words," he huffs, swiping his hand across his face. "I've tried to fix it, but it's just not, not..." He sighs as he flails his arms about himself trying to explain the words his tired brain can't form.
"Ahh," I utter in acknowledgement. "May I?," I question, pointing to the screen. "Be my guest," he encourages, finally giving up on the piece he's been composing for the last three and a half hours.
Furrowing my brows, I start rereading the lyrics and making my edits. Five minutes later, I hand the laptop back to the lavender haired man. He quickly glances over my work and his eyes shoot back up to meet mine.
"How did- what-," he flounders. "Do you like it?" I ask with a slight smirk. "It's even better than I thought it could be," he responds. "All it needs now is the instrumental and vocal track. Thanks, Nari," he finishes, flashing me a dimpled grin. "No problem, Joon. I already have an instrumental in mind that I think would sound really good with the lyrics. I'll show you later."
I soon feel a tapping on my shoulder and I turn around to see the boy has finally finished listening over the track. "So?" I started, inwardly crossing my fingers. "It was already really good, but I took the liberty of polishing a few spots and I added another bass line. I hope you don't mind." "Nah, it's fine. That's why I asked you to listen anyway. I wanted you to help me fix it, if need be," I dismissed, waving my hand.
"Hey Namjoon, Heejin," I called, catching the pair's attention. "Listen to this track Yoongi and I just finished. I was thinking it could be the third song for the EP." I unplugged the headphones connected to the computer and pressed play, letting our newest masterpiece come to life and resound through the air.
