You placed a hand over his chest, looking down at your unsteady hand. "Yeah, you are Marshall. Heart's racing too.."
"It's cold." He murmured.
"It's 75 degrees in here."
He huffed, falling silent again as he realized there was no room to argue with you. Instead, he turned his face against you.
You chewed your lip softly, your face reddening even more as you felt him wrap his arms around your lower waist.
Even after that you could still feel him shaking ever so so slightly.
"It's reoccurring." He finally admitted after a long moment of silence. "It's.. fucking stupid. I'm used to it anyways."
You shivered as you felt his index finger lightly brush your forearm. You knew what he was doing.
Or at least, you thought you knew.
You wouldn't get distracted though, not this time. "You shouldn't be used to it." You pointed out, deciding it was best to leave out the fact that he hadn't exactly looked "used to it" just moments before.
"Maybe not. But I am." He shrugged, his words vibrating against your shoulder.
You huffed, looking up at the ceiling for a moment as you thought about that. Sometimes talking to Marshall felt as though you were speaking to a chipped brick wall. You felt as though there were times where you had to maneuver yourself to be able to see through those said cracks. Your words are often what guided you to the right paths.
"Well.." you found yourself asking, "how long have you been having this dream?"
Marshall shrugged at first, but you could tell by his face that he was thinking about it for a moment. He seemed to recall something, his features darkening for a second as he looked away from you. "A few months now. Every couple of nights. Hasn't happened so much here. It hasn't happened at all, actually. Don't know why the fuck it happened today." He admitted, rubbing his eyes as he spoke.
"Do.. you think it has anything to do with what happened today?" You questioned, trying and somewhat succeeding to keep the sleepiness out of your voice. You briefly wondered what time it was. It was still completely pitch black outside, although the sounds of thunderous rain cascaded throughout your rooftop.
Marshall didn't say anything, his hold around you seemed to tighten gently at the question. You wondered what was going on in his head. He seemed to be jumping through a number of thoughts. His eyes trailed in thought, and for a brief second you felt your breath catch in your throat.
Those eyes.
You were used to them being so focused, clear and concise. Now they moved as if they were unsure of what to think, believe or feel.
"Yeah." He finally answered, allowing his gaze to finally settle on you with a deep sigh. "Yeah, I'm sure it does. At least some of it."
"What exactly happened?" You asked. "I mean, before I walked in earlier? It had been an hour in between. I walked in and.."
"Yeah." He answered. "I know." You could tell by the look on his face that he had been waiting for that question. "Uhh.." he trailed, thinking back for a moment before sighing again. "I walked in and called for Lily. She didn't answer me.. she was tangled up in a sleeping bag." He explained. "She'd fucked up her hair, and parts of it was stuck in the zipper. I had to get her free with the only pair of scissors I could find, which were broken." He explained.
You hummed in acknowledgment as you listened, closing your eyes for a second as you felt him continue to brush your arm lightly.
"That's what took the most time, I guess. Once I got her out.. I asked where the bitch was." He murmured. "She didn't want to tell me. I guess she had a feeling that.. I don't know." He shrugged. "I walked into the room, there was empty liquor bottles everywhere. I.. I knew she couldn't afford to buy all that shit herself, so I asked her where she got the money."
