Chapter Four: Determination

Start from the beginning

"I seem to have...um," Malfoy's don't stutter. He took a deep breath and started again. "My memory has been completely wiped. I really have no idea who you are."

And the noise that came out of the girl's mouth was enough to make him want to cry a little bit.

"Oh," It was the breath of a whisper, and Draco's ears barely caught it before the sound was gone. In a moment, one that he almost missed, the girl seemed to go through a million emotions at once. The fire in her eyes blinked out for a moment, seeming dull and grey, her hands faltered, and her mouth pinched into a straight line. Then suddenly, as quickly as it had come, it was gone. The fire was back, if not a little softer than before, and she stood tall.

"Well hello Draco Malfoy, my name is Pansy Parkinson, it is a pleasure to meet you."

His mouth quirked into a small smile. "The pleasure is all mine." She mirrored his expression and turned to the wall with a huff of laughter.

"Well now I know why you were standing here with murder in your eyes. The password is bezoar," she said with a wink.

He stood gaping as the wall opened to form a passage into the most beautiful looking room he had ever seen (which was only the bathroom, the hospital wing, and the hallways, but whatever. Details schmetails.)

There was dark green everywhere, and when he said everywhere, he meant everywhere. The sofas were green, the walls were green, even the border along the floor was green. All different shades of course, but still a little overwhelming nonetheless. He could feel his mouth pop open and he wouldn't have been able to have his jaw closed even if he tried. Pansy looked smug beside him.

"Pretty isn't it?"

"Ya," is all he managed to gasp out. She let out another laugh and pulled him along.

"Come on, I want to show you the dorms before class ends."

Draco had to take a moment to compose himself before taking in what she said. "Wait ya, why aren't you in class?"

She turned to glare at him like he was crazy. "Because you almost died when you fell down those stairs Draco Malfoy, and I will be arsed if you think I didn't skip classes to make sure you were alright. Even Blaise and Theo joined me a few times. Theo! I honestly couldn't believe it." She turned serious again. "You better not do that again Draco, or I swear I will hex you until you have to leave this place as goo in a bucket.

Chills went over him as he realised she was being dead serious. "Noted."

She smiled at him and took his arm to lead him downwards.

"Down here to the right are the girls' dormitories, but that doesn't really matter to you much, doesn't it?" she said with a wink. He had not got the slightest clue what she meant.

"Here are your dormitories. You live with the aforementioned Blaise and Theo, who really do like you, so they shouldn't be too put off by the whole memory loss or anything."

Draco looked despairingly at her. "Uhh, Pansy, I'm not going to tell them." He didn't know why he was scared, maybe the whole leaving the place in a bucket had something to do with it.

Pansy stopped walking to glare at him. "What? Draco, I don't know if your sense of humour has changed, but really that is not funny."

"It's not a joke."

"Draco bloody Malfoy, if you think for one second that you are going to keep this a secret from your two best friends then you are more mental than I already thought you were."

"Thanks?"

Pansy seemed so infuriated for a moment that her nose scrunched up to look even more pug-like. Then, she blinked her eyelashes up at him and started to trace her hand along his arm.

"It would mean a lot to me if you told them."

If she thought this was going to work, then he was best friends with someone delusional.

Wait.

"Pansy? Are...are we dating?"

She looked at him for one second, then burst into laughter so loud, the people talking at the end of the hallway snapped their heads up at the sound.

"Merlin no," She was still laughing, "imagine." Now she was wiping fake tears of mirth from her eyes and Draco did his best not to roll his.

"If I'd known you would have such an adverse reaction to that, I wouldn't have asked," he said flatly, more than slightly offended at the reaction she had at the words.

"I mean, I did want to date you for the longest time," she said, pondering. "But you were never really into me at all."

He was quite surprised at that, to be honest. "Really?"

"Really really."

"Huh," is all he has to say. And then, they are in his dorms.
