"Did you hear that?" Both Amelie and Lydia spoke at the same time.
"Hear what?" Allison asked confused.
"I don't know. The smaller one, I guess," A woman replied to the man, making Amelie's eyes dart to the vent above them. "It's okay. Smaller's better– there's less kick."
"I'll chamber the round."
"No," Amelie breathed, tears stinging the back of her eyes. "All right, so..."
"Wait, wait! When do I... I mean, do you count?" The woman stopped the man hesitantly.
"Yeah. Yeah, I'll... I'll... I'll count to three."
"So after three or on three?"
"You tell me." Both girls looked at each other with horrified expressions, their eyes wide and mouth wide with terror.
"Guys?" Allison called out again.
"They're gonna–" Amelie stuttered, looking back at the vent.
"One... two..."
"Oh, my God, oh, my God—" Lydia gasped.
"Then pull the trigger."
"Oh, my God!"
"I love you." The man announced. "Stop!" Amelie screamed. "I love you, too," The woman replied a smile lacing her tone.
"One... two..."
"NO!" The two girls sobbed.
"Guys, what happened?" Allison asked now more urgently, concerned. "Didn't you hear that?" Lydia asked. "Hear what?"
"The two people in the other room- they shot each other!" Amelie gasped, tears now streaming down her face. Lydia and Amelie looked at each other before heading out of the room, looking for the bodies.
Finally facing the door, Amelie urgently opened the door, opening it with a loud screech and being welcomed with empty darkness.
"Hello?"
"Guys, what are you doing?" Allison whispered harshly, following the girls. "Hello???" Lydia called out this time. Moving forward into the room, Lydia opened a large torch, only to be welcomed with emptiness.
"It had to be right here. It was a guy and a girl, and, I mean, they sounded younger, but... they were here," Lydia sighed defeatedly making Amelie nod feverishly.
"I believe you," Allison insisted. "After everything we've been through, I believe you."
"You know, there is something seriously wrong with this place," Amelie said as soon as they entered their room again. Lydia marched in and started to pack all of her stuff.
"Guys? We need to leave," Lydia firmly said. "But they were suicides, not murders, and it's not like this place is haunted, right?" Allison retorted.
"Maybe it is?" Lydia exasperated. "You know, I bet that couple made their suicide pact in that very room! Maybe that's why they're renovating-- maybe they've been scraping brain matter off the wood paneling."
"Maybe we should find out," Amelie muttered, looking up at the two girls who had the same expression as her. The trio walked down to the reception, looking for answers from the woman behind the counter. Only to find it was empty and a small sign saying "back at 6am" replaced her.
