72. We can't have both

"Rosa"

You look up at the teacher

"What?"

"If 15+x-12=18 what does x=?"

You look at him bored

"X=15"

He seems surprised when you answer correctly.

You and nova have figured out how to keep your thoughts from each other so that you're not always in each other's heads(pun intended) but you still feel each other's emotions. You're still in turmoil about Kyle and Nyle but you're trying not to think about it.

That night Nyle takes you to the roof, or rather takes nova to the roof because you let her have complete control. You drift to the back of your mind as they talk until he puts his hand on her thigh.

"Nova, I really like you, I like you in a romantic way"

She smiles

"I like you that way too"

He kisses her and she kisses him back. You can feel the excitement radiating from her.

You try to be happy for her, you really do, but you just can't. Everything about this feels so wrong.

Rosa suddenly pulls away from him the same way you did with Kyle.

'Nova what are you doing?!'

She doesn't respond to you and instead speaks out loud to Nyle

"We can't be together"

"Why not?"

"We just can't"

She turns away crossing her arms over her chest

'Nova don't do this'

Nyle wraps his arms around her waist from behind and kisses her neck.

"I'd be so good to you little wolf, you've no need to be afraid"

'Nova please,'

She doesn't pull away from his hug. He presses his body against hers/yours and you've both had too much. You split control and run away in tears.

You run past Wanda on the way but no one else sees you. You run into your room and lock the door. You land on your bed and just lay there sobbing.

You feel your bed shift and look up to see Wanda with a box of tissues, a plate of cookies, and a glass of milk. You sit up and take a tissue and a cookie.

"Thanks Wanda"

"Of course"

You sniffle as you dry your eyes with the tissue. You are an absolute mess.

"Do you need to talk?"

You start telling her everything.

"I like Kyle but nova likes Nyle except we can't date them both at the same time cuz that's cheating and so whichever one we date one of us is gonna be unhappy, there's no winning here"

You mindlessly stuff another cookie in your mouth.

"Rose, you're so young, there is no need to rush into a relationship. I can't say I know what it's like to share my body with another soul, but I can say that when you follow your heart things usually seem to work themselves out. Why don't you just be friends with both of them for now?"

You nod.

"Good idea, I need to do some serious soul searching, pun intended"

You both giggle and you start to feel better. You talk and laugh with Wanda for a while. Phoenix sits in your lap cooing as you pet her.

Kyle is sitting on the couch when he sees Rosa run past him sobbing. He immediately stands up to see what's going on.

Nyle walks in and runs a hand through his hair. Kyle is flooded with rage.

"What did you do to her?!"

Wanda Stands up.

"Stay here boys, I've got this one"

She turns and leaves as Nyle shouts back.

"I didn't do anything to her!"

"Bullshit!"

"What do you know! You were gone for three years! You don't know her like I do!"

Kyle clenches his fists

"I don't know her?! You only visit her every other month! I'm the one who is here taking care of her and making sure she's okay!"

"Just fuck off! I treat her better than you ever could!"

"Clearly!"

Kyle replies sarcastically waving a hand in the direction that Rosa went. Nyle looks in that direction and then back.

"That means nothing!"

"That means everything! That means that you did something wrong to her and you need to apologize or leave!"

They both hear the crunching of popcorn at the same time and turn to see Natasha leaning against the wall with a bag of popcorn.

"You two done yet?"

They look at Natasha, she raises her eyebrows. She looks at Nyle.

"I saw the video footage from the roof"

Nyle stays silent. She looks at Kyle.

"All of it"

Kyle swallows hard.  She points to Nyle,

"You. Either go apologize right now or leave and don't come back"

Nyle turns and heads towards Rosa/Nova's room. Natasha turns to Kyle.

"Kyle. Come with me, we need to talk"

Kyle follows Nat off to a different room

Wanda stares off into space for a moment.

"Wanda?"

She blinks and turns back to you.

"Yes?"

"You good?"

"Yes I'm good, are you feeling better?"

"Yeah, thank you"

"Maybe instead of rushing into a relationship, you could just be friends with both of them for now"

You nod

"Good idea"

There's a knock at the door, you remember it's still locked.

"May I come in?"

That's Nyle's voice. You look to Wanda for help. She gives you a slight smile.

"It's up to you, if you don't want to let him in it's okay to say no"

You take a deep breath and let it out.

"What do you want Nyle?"

He jiggles the doorknob

"May I come in? I came to apologize"
