His eyes widened even further when he saw the cat actually do what she said, climbing out of the fountain and walking towards them.
"How did-did you name him George or did he come like that?" He asked as the cat wiped its dry head against her leg, the two of them continuing to walk to her building.
"Yeah, I named him George. I like to think that he's my grandmother reincarnated but I don't really think she would appreciate me naming her George." She explained while George trotted behind her. There were a few cats in her neighborhood that loved her, which was because of Bastet's influence and also because she left a bowl of food outside her apartment for the building cats.
"Well, if she ever asks, maybe you could tell her that it's short for Georgina or Georgette." He offered with a shrug.
Esme looked at him for a second, a stupidly soft smile on her face before saying, "Well, I'll be sure to tell her that the cute man that walks me home every other day helped me come up with it."
Steven whipped his head at her, the mentioned red ears and cheeks forming, before looking back at the ground when her gaze didn't look away from his.
She liked the effect she had on him, it made her feel happy cause she wasn't the only feeling it, hers was just more concealed and on the inside.
"Oop, here we are!" He said as they stopped in front of her building, George getting ahead of them and pawing at the door. The two of them stood across from each other for a few awkward moments before Steven nodded and quickly said, "Well, I'll see you Saturday, bye Esme!"
She shook her head, watching as he turned around in an almost comical way, and then called loudly on the border of yelling, "Steven Grant!"
He turned around, one hand holding the strap of his shoulder bag and the other being unconsciously held up at his chest level. "Hmm?"
"Why haven't you asked me out yet?"
He was frozen for a second, stuttering slightly as his face took on a whole new shade of red. W-wha- You would like to go on a date...with me?"
She moved forward in slow steps with a small smile and teased, "Move the 'would' in front of the 'you' and shorten the space between 'date' and 'with'."
He huffed a laugh, nodding shyly to himself, Esme standing in front of him now. "Would you like to go on a date with me?"
"See, that's better. And yes, I would." Esme planted a kiss on his cheek and before turning back to her apartment complex, "You have my number, Steven with a V!"
"Yes, I do.." He whispered to himself, waving at her as she opened the door and waved back, then closing the door after George.
Steven did a small arm pump with a wide smile, just like he had did when they first met and practically skipped home that day. First the first time, he couldn't wait to go to sleep to see her sooner.

4 months later4 months past by so quickly and Esme and Steven were still dating each other. They still had their routine of walking each other home after work but sometimes they would go to dinner or they would go upstairs to one of their places and just stay in. They hadn't kissed on the lips (yeah, we're using kiddy terms now) but she didn't mind as they had most other things.
