"I know, I know," Janus said, burying as much of his face as he could into his brother as if he didn't then he'd lose him all over again. "Oh god, I was so fucking stupid. I should never have let them take you, I should have put up more of a fight. I-I-... Oh god Virgie, I missed you so much."

"You can't ever leave me alone again, got it?"

Janus laughed brokenly, "Kid I'm not even going to let you out of my sight until you're at least old enough to drive."

"Uhm," a voice said from behind them. Janus pulled away from his brother slightly, glaring at the two adults who were now standing next to and behind them. Virgil did not let go, still holding on tight to his brother, and even sitting in Janus's lap as he looked up at them, "Hello there," Patton said as he held his hand out to Janus, "I'm Patton."

Janus looked at the hand as if it could contaminate him and said nothing to the man. Patton didn't seem to bat an eye as he pulled his hand away, "This is Logan," Patton gestured to the taller man, who only gave a gruff and seemingly uncertain nod, "What's your name? I see you and Virgil are close, how do you know him?"

Janus held Virgil slightly tighter, "He's my brother," Janus growled.

"Falsehood," Logan said, adjusting his glasses, "Patton and I were told that Virgil has no siblings."

"Well you were lied to," Janus stated matter of factly.

"You must mean that you two are good friends, right?" Patton asked

Janus shook his head, "No. I mean my mom and dad did the do and had me and then seven years later Virgil came along. We're brothers, and we're related, by blood and everything else that matters."

"That's not possible," Logan replied, his voice a little stern as he spoke, "I reviewed Virgil's file multiple times, and nowhere in there did it mention an older brother."

"And Virgil never said anything about a brother," Patton added.

"Dad, Virgil hasn't said much of anything," The boy in the red reasoned.

"He did write down something about a brother a few weeks ago though. We just thought it was some kinda imaginary friend or piece from the tragic backstory we're not allowed to ask about." That was the one in green, with the gray streak in his hair.

Janus huffed as he stood up, setting Virgil down on the ground, "Look, doesn't matter, I'm just here to take Virgil home with me and-"

Logan took a step forward, arm outstretched, "Absolutely not, we can in no way allow you to break into our home and take our child-"

Janus pushed Virgil behind him, "Oh but you're just allowed to take Virgil away from me?"

"Kiddo," Patton began, placing a hand on Logan's shoulders to stop the man, "How are we supposed to know that you're really his brother? What if you're not? We don't know, we can't just let you leave with him."

"Don't you see the resemblance?" Janus asked, it was only partially a joke. The two of them did look enough alike that they could easily pass as brothers. But the age gap and the scars made it difficult to see. If Janus were to show them a picture of what he had looked like at nine, it would be undeniable. But seven years had passed since he was nine and puberty had been running it course for half that time.

"It's hard to see much of anything with that scar," the boy in green whispered.

"Remus," Patton and Logan scolded in unison.

"Shut up!" Virgil yelled up the stairs, "Don't you ever be mean to him or I'll shove you down the stairs or something." The others in the room went quiet and seemed a little surprised, while Janus couldn't help but feel slightlytouched.

"No one is shoving anyone down the stairs," Logan said, "But, Patton is correct, unless you can provide sufficient proof of relation to Virgil I will be forced to call the police."

Janus tensed, his face going slightly pale as Virgil jumped to his defense yet again, "No! You're not allowed."

Patton and Logan exchanged looks, "Virgil, Hunny-"

"If you arrest him then I'm going to-to run away!"

"You're talking big game for such a small person, you know that Stormcloud," Remus said, he and the other boy had slowly started to descend the stairs.

Janus took off his backpack and dug around in it till he found his wallet, "Look," he demanded as he shoved his ID in the men's faces, "Janus Owens. I'm sixteen, I was born on February 3rd and I'm supposed to wear corrective lenses because of my left eye but I don't because contact lenses are too expensive and every time I get glasses they break within a week and I look stupid with them."

"That is unfortunately not enough," Logan said, "It is not especially hard to create a fake ID."

"Are you serious?!" Janus asked with a scoff before he pulled out a couple of other cards from the wallet, "Mine and Virgil's bus passes, see? Same last name. I have my school ID in here too, and-"

"Cards are not going to work."

Janus growled as he dropped his wallet back into his bag and dug around in it till he pulled out his passport and practically threw it at the men before grabbing a square paper out of the bag as well. "You should have Virgil's passport, that one's mine. And here's a picture of us from when he was three," Janus handed them the picture, "T-two months before our parents died, we took family photos. That's me, and that's Virgil and-and-and we're brothers. Okay? We're brothers and I just want him back. He's all I have left and..." Janus's shoulders began to shake slightly as he once again began to cry, "Please, just, don't take him away from me again."

Not again.
