Esmeray took a small step back at the realization, a small scoff leaving her mouth in disbelief as her eyes filled with tears.
"That's why you stabbed me, isn't it? So I wouldn't kill him?"
He didn't answer. She didn't need him to. The look on his face told her everything she needed to know.
Her finger pushed against his chest before it turned into her fist, again and again while he stood there and took it. He knew he deserved this after what he had taken away from her.
She yelled at him as she kept hitting him. "You knew! You knew everything that that man had done to me and you still helped him escape! I almost got the justice I deserved and you took that away from me!"
Marc let her hit him as he tried to explain his side of the story. "I had to, Ray. I had to. He was the entail. He was the only way to find
out-""You stabbed me! You stabbed me and protected the man that-"
The footsteps came towards them cut her off, both of them looking over to where Layla had entered through a side doorway. She seemed very confused by the yelling that she was hearing from the two of them.
"...what's going on, guys?" She slowly said.
Marc looked at Ray, who had her head turned so that Layla couldn't see her whip the tears away from her cheeks and try to get her eye color back to normal.
He took that as his sign to tell her in a sadden tone, "Nothing. Everything's fine." The smile on his face was unconvincing and there was no way that she hadn't heard Esmeray's yelling a few seconds before.
"Alright then, so, did you guys find it?"
"Yeah..yeah, it's right here." He said, showing her the ushabti.
"Great, let's get out of here than." She looked to Esmeray and asked, "You sure you're okay?"
The woman in question sucked in a deep breath before turning back and saying, "Yeah, sure."
'Sure' really isn't something someone who is okay would say. But neither of the others said anything cause at the moment they needed to leave before Harrow and his men found them.
Way too well timed, there was a quiet rustling happening on the other side of the room where Layla had come from.
"They're here."
They seemed to natural spread apart at the sound, looking around for some kind of exit besides where Harrow and his men were coming from.
"There must be another way out."
"Okay. You two go find it. I'll hold them off."
Esmeray grabbed Layla by the arm and started leading her away. If anything happened, she would be able to protect her. After all, she was the only one out of the three of them that didn't have a god standing behind them. Okay, maybe not Marc at the moment but usually.
She could hear Marc grab the gold hatchet off the top of the sarcophagus, yell 'Come on!' and breath heavily as he waited for the attack to come.
