Chapter 26 - Better Than Ever

  "It's ten thirty!"

  She let out a shaky breath along with her hands that almost lost its grip on the glass. She placed the glass on her dining table and took a deep breath. She took steps forward, focusing on the pressure on her feet. She gasped when she could finally feel the wooden floor. The texture and lines with her toes.

Her eyes welled in tears as she continued walking. She started jumping slowly. One after another. No pain. She stopped and dropped to the ground. She burst into tears.

"I don't feel any pain. I don't feel any pain!"

She stepped out of her car with her keys in her hand. She closed the door shut and confidently walked away, pressing on the lock button of her keys.

She walked into the building and tapped her card on the black scanner. The door slide open and she continued walking in through the building. She stepped in the elevator when she received a call from Tony.

"Lia? Are you okay? Where are you? You told us to meet up."

"I'm in the elevator, Tony. Coming up. Just give me a minute."

"Are you sure you're okay to go out? Are you feeling better?"

"Yes Tony. I'm feeling better now."

"A while ago, you said you were throwing up. It's only been a few hours. You could've just told us through the phone or we could come over."

"It's important, Tony."

"Is it that important? What could be so important that—"

The door slide open and his voice became louder. She stepped out the elevator.

"—you have to come and tell me?"

The rest were talking amongst themselves. She turn the corner and reveal herself. She stood from the distance and they turn their heads to face her when her feet made a click sound on the glossy floor.

"You came all the way here to show us your new outfit?" Clint asked.

It was different. From long skinny jeans to shorts. T-shirt turns to a crop top and of course, her green leather jacket over the piece of clothing. The only leather jacket that she ever loved and a huge reminder of her lover's colour. She was wearing a high heel boots that covered her ankle.

"Glad you noticed that, Clint."

"Lia, why are you not wearing your-"

She began walking towards them when she noticed Tony's widened eyes. Slowly, each one of them gasped in shock. Her eyes fixed on Tony who's hands started shaking. She walked with confidence. No longer limping. No leg brace. She stopped right before him and looked up at him.

"Y-You're...You're-"

"It's been forty-seven hours and three minutes...four minutes now. No pills. No injections. Clean off the drugs."

"H-How are y-you feeling?" he stammered.

Tears welled up in his eyes. She read his expressions that was all mixed. He was definitely surprised.
