Chapter 26 - Better Than Ever

Start from the beginning

"Better than ever."

Without any words, he engulfed her in a hug. His arms wrapped around her neck. He broke into tears as he kissed her head. Her tears slipped down her cheeks as well while she smiled. Her right hand stroked his back while the other held Steve's, who could barely keep his tears in.

"Thank you, Tony," she softly said. "For all your hard work."

They stayed like that for a minute before pulling back. She wiped his tears away as he did too. She went around to hug the Avengers who congratulated her. Although Lia was confident that she was fully healed, Tony had her do a couple of jump tests and run tests. She explained everything, especially the part about Utgard-Loki.

They brainstormed about it but it wasn't putting Lia in a good place. Despite the fact the trauma, she was in love with a man who caused the destruction. They stopped the conversation as soon as they saw Lia's face darkened. She hid it well but they could see through the mask.

Weeks passed and Lia was back at S.H.I.E.L.D. She was back to doing what she loved and caused minor troubles here and there. She trained hard with Natasha and Clint, even though Tony said no but he knew nothing could stop her from doing so.

Gaining her leg back was the best motivation she could ever have. The best motivation for her to start moving on from Loki. She could go for a run to distract herself or train with Natasha but she knew she was never going to move on from him. This is all just work for a distraction. She fell hard in such a short period of time.

Whether he was going to come back or not, she was never going to move on from him. Raiden and Jean brought her out on blind dates and double dates. For the first few times, she declined but she noticed how it upset Jean, she agreed. She knew Jean was upset that Lia was different every time they left her home or when she's alone.

It was a mistake that Jean caught Lia crying in the middle of the night. Sitting in his room with his shirt tugged in her hands. Jean watched her from the door after waking up from her sleep. Jean knew the amount of love she felt for the man. Loki was the first man she opened up to after so long. She depended on him for her feelings. Jean was only able to sigh and hug the girl when she left the room.

Going on double dates and blind dates were useless. She was as tough as a rock. She laughed and smiled but never opened her heart for them. They could've had an amazing date but there were never seconds.

Lia sat in the gym room with Steve by her side. She breathed heavily, looking up at the ceiling. She stood back up and began her chest press. Steve stood opposite of her with his hands on his waist and sighed.

"Lia, don't push yourself too hard. Take a break."

"W-What? I already did."

"You barely took a minute. Stop."

She ignored the big man and continued her chest press. Her sweat dripping down her temple. Her shirt was drenched in sweat. Her hands were already shaking but she kept pushing through. It all stopped when blood dripped down her nose.

Steve's eyes widened and immediately rushed to grab a box of tissue. Lia gently pull her hands back and took the tissue from his hands. She lifted her head up, preventing the blood from flowing more and put pressure on it.
