Start from the beginning

Did I just kill them?

Your thought process just stopped. Your body moved on its own, plugging your flash drive into their computer system.

You stared at the computer screen. Tears floating around you.

Karma's pov

I didn't want to believe it. I didn't want to know the truth. What I saw wasn't real, right?

But, I know I can't lie to myself.

It was there, written on her wrist. The numbers the world hated most.

What can I do? Can I even do anything? Comfort? Acknowledgement? Confirmation? Would anything even help her at this point?

I look over to see her downloading the information from the ISS computer system.

I couldn't help but cry myself. She's so beautiful. Yet so fragile.

I reached out to touch her shoulder.

"Y/n, I-"

The next thing I knew, a deep cut was made into my hand, blood flowing into the atmosphere.

"Don't touch me. Please."

Y/n continued to silently cry as her tentacles retracted. They seeped their way into her back like an angel's wings.

She ripped part of her sweatshirt and wrapped my hand, still not making eye contact with me.

I winced at the pain as she tied the cloth. She did a lazy throwing motion from my hand to the air, but didn't recite the chant. Maybe she... forgot.

"Karma, is everything alright?" Nagisa said in my earpiece.

I couldn't even find the words to explain this feeling. This moment.

I didn't reply to Nagisa.

Time seemed to slow down. I was able to think. It all made sense.

Going to America for two years. Always wearing long clothing and gloves. That stuff in her desk. Not swimming in the pool. Not taking trains with me. Listening to every single one of those damn reports.

More thoughts filled my head as I thought of all the signs I was given.

It was her all along.

But it doesn't matter now.

She only has 29 days left after all.

"I got the information. Let's go," you said.

You and Karma returned to the rocket, preparing to launch back to Kunugigaoka.

Tears stained your face.

You couldn't even look at Karma.
