Connor has always known that he has a true mate out there and that he is male. Even when nobody believed him, he defended his mate. Even when his father wanted him to mate a good female breeder, Connor said no, staying true to his mate.

"Of course I knew. This idiot, however, was actually surprised."
"Hey, my brain is still growing, thank you."
Connor laughed. "Okay, well, it would have been helpful if you'd come on time and had my back, but whatever."
"Ouch," Miguel said. "Your words are sharper than daggers."
Jamie laughed, still holding onto Connor's arm. "I guess nobody died, so that's a good outcome for everyone."
Connor licked his mate's ear. "That's exactly what I was thinking."
The twins stared at the mates. "Wow, you guys are like a mated couple. That answers my next question, have you already--?"
"No," Jamie scoffed. "We haven't."
Connor chuckled. "Though I'd take him right here if he'd let me." Jamie tried to walk away, but Connor kept him in his place. "Baby, the hard part is over, let's just enjoy the party now, okay?"
There were still people there, and once the shock had passed, most had actually stayed and smiled at the newly fated couple. It had surprised Jamie and it certainly made Connor happy to have their people's acceptance.
His father had excused himself, but that was the Alpha. He needed time to process, so that was all good and well.
"Stop calling me baby, it makes me feel like a pup."
"You're my beautiful, smart, gorgeous baby," Connor whispered in his mate's ear, making him flush bright red.
"Uh, guys, we can still hear you," Miguel said, looking uncomfortable.
"Get used to it," Connor said.
And they would. He was not letting go of Jamie for anything. Now that he had his mate in his arms, he decided to do something he usually didn't enjoy much.
"Will you give me this dance, mate of mine?" Connor asked, looking into Jamie's eyes like a love-struck fool.
Jamie rolled his eyes. "Fine." But he was still blushing.

Later that night, when Connor asked Jamie what he wanted to do, his mate shyly suggested to go to Connor's room. They had had some celebratory wine and had watched the twins entertain everybody, acting like clowns as always, and they had enjoyed everyone's mirth and good mood.
It made Connor think that everything would be all right after all.
Connor led his mate to his - now their - room and they started to get ready for bed. Getting cleaned up, getting undressed, and overall sneaking peeks at each other.
Connor was not shy around nakedness, but he wanted to give his younger mate some time to acclimate. He didn't want to rush Jamie.
They went to bed together and Connor held his smaller mate, spooning him, burying his nose in Jamie's hair, and finally, he could breathe easily. He had everything he ever wanted with him, and nobody could tell him that Jamie did not exist.
His mate was real and in Connor's bed.
Jamie sighed. "Connor?"
"Mmm?"
"Is it okay if we don't-- you know?"
"We don't have to do anything you don't want."
"It's not that I don't want it, but I just-- I'm not ready," he said shyly, making Connor's heart sing for him. His perfect baby was so precious.
"You know what? I don't even care when or if we do it. I just want you with me, here, like this, forever. Okay?"
Jamie whispered, "Okay."
And then were soon taken by sleep, no doubt to be tested another day, but for now, knowing that they were safe in each other's arms.

And most importantly, do you want me to continue this story? I stopped it here because it was a good enough wrap-up for now, but I do know there are some loose ends. If enough people want to see what happens next, I will write it. :)
