Chapter 15

Elijah silently made his way towards Elena's room, since his mother wouldn't let anyone in there other than herself, Ayana, and Mikeal after the incident last night. Mikeal had come home late that night, it was a shock to everyone. That morning, Elijah had woken up to Mikeal leaving Elena's room with a tear rolling down his face.

Elijah pauses at the sound of his mother's voice. Carefully, Elijah places his ear to the door.

"Do you want her to continue suffering? This is not a curse, I assure you."

"Sealing her magic–" Ayana begins, only to be cut off by Esther.

"Is something we have to do."

"Mikeal, surely you can talk some sense into her."

"If magic is the only thing that will keep my daughter protected–"

Elijah takes a moment before knocking on his mother's door.

The conversation quickly came to a stop.

The door slowly creaked open.

"Mother, Lilith brought this by for Elena."

Elijah holds up the gold bracelet, instantly relieved by the look in his mother's eyes.

"Thank you, Elijah."

Elijah gives his mother a soft smile before walking away.

Esther lightly knocks on Elena's door, before opening it.

Elena paused, looking up from her writing.

"Elena, how are you feeling?"

"I am feeling better, mother."

"Good."

A moment of silence befell the two.

"Elena... I found your bracelet–"

Before Esther could finish her sentence, Elena had already launched out of her chair and put the bracelet on her wrist.

"Thank you, mother! I do not know what I would have done without it..."

Esther stays deathly silent, causing Elena to slowly pull out of the hug.

"Mother?"

"Elena, my child, I have not been completely honest with you."

Elena frowns as her mother sits her down on the bed.

"What–"

"You have been asleep for two weeks."

Elena stays quiet.

"That night, you were attacked by wolves– but you were not the only one."

"No–"

"Niklaus and Henrik were attacked that night–"

Esther pauses as she tries to stay strong.

"Mother–"

Esther shakes her head as tears fill her eyes.

"Henrik, your brother, did not survive the attack."

Everything seemed to stop as her heart squeezed with pain. Esther quickly wrapped Elena in her arms, but Elena didn't seem to acknowledge it. Elena's body shook as she let out heart-shattering sobs.

Mikael quickly made his way to the room, worried something had happened to Elena. His worries immediately disappeared when he looked at Esther. More than anything, he wanted to go in and help Esther comfort Elena, but that was not his place. He needed to be strong because one thing he could not be is weak. He grimaced as memories of his childhood began to play in his head. Silently, he walked away from the room.

One by one, her siblings filled the room as they heard her cries.

Hours had passed by the time Elena lifted her head. Her eyes, red and puffy, searched the room.

"Niklaus– did he..."

"No, Niklaus is alive." Esther informs.

Rebekah hands her a cup of water.

"Thank you."

"Anything for you, Sister." Rebekah says, hugging Elena.

Esther stands up, placing a hand on Elena's shoulder.

"I must talk to Ayana, will you be okay?"

Elena gives her mother a nod.

Esther walks out of the room, determined to find Mikael.

After a moment of silence, Elena clears her throat.

"Where is Niklaus?"

Finn, Rebekah, and Kol give her a sad smile.

"Niklaus has not been doing so well after..." Elijah pauses.

"He was injured? Is he–"

"No, he's perfectly fine." Kol says bitterly.

"He's not leaving his room, it is nothing to worry about." Finn informs softly.

"It is something to worry about, this is not normal." Elijah argues.

"Nothing about this is normal!" Kol yells.

"He is in pain–"

"And rightfully so. He got Henrik–"

"I want to speak to him." Elena announces.

"I do not think that is a good–" Finn pauses as Elena begins to get off the bed.

Elijah quickly rushes to her side to keep her upright.

"Thank you."

"Are you sure about this?" Rebekah asks.

"Yes."
