They started smelling the different chemicals. Noting the white powder had no smell, the purple powder had a flowery smell, and the liquid had a sweet perfume like smell to it. Kenny picked up a test tube with yellow cloudy liquid in it and smelled a sour scent, but one he was familiar with. The other's watched as he took a small sip, he made a painful face and started to cough. Individually they all started to panic. Wendy started trying to get the teacher's attention Kyle pulled out his phone to call poison control, and Stan was pushing his water bottle to Kenny who accepted it, chugging it down.
"It's lemon juice!" He said, pulling the water bottle away from his mouth. "It's just really sour lemon juice." They all sat down, silence surrounding them for a moment before they erupted into laughter.
"Dude I thought you were gonna die." Stan said, patting Kenny on the back.
"Seriously, who drinks a test tube of a random liquid?" Wendy held her stomach as tears brimmed the corner of her eyes.
"I've drunk way more dangerous things." Kenny just laughed while rubbing the back of his neck.
As the laughing subsided Kyle looked at the liquid in front of him thoughtfully. He took the yellow liquid and poured it into the beaker. The liquid turned pink. "You have to be kidding me." He muttered. "It's tea."
"What?" Stan laughed and looked at his friend quizzically.
"Tea is brown Kyle, not pink." Kenny chuckled.
"Oh yeah. No Kyle's right." Wendy said, looking closer. She turned the burner off and poured the liquid through a strainer into tiny dixie cups. "It's called butterfly tea."
"This explains the tiny cups." Kenny took one and drank it like a shot. Kyle and Wendy followed, taking small sips.
"You think you'd have learned not to drink random substances given to you." Stan laughed and drank his cup. "It's bitter."
Kyle thought that was kind of cute, smiling at his friend. Wendy watched him from the corner of her eye, sipping her drink. 'There it is again, that jealous feeling, but why?'
Stan and Kyle started labeling the tubes and cleaning up, while Kenny and Wendy worked on the closing conclusion of the notes. They finished just as the bell rang, quickly collecting their things. As they filed out of the class Wendy hung behind to give the teacher the paper. She was surprised to see that the boys had waited for her.
"We got health class now, where are you off to?" Kenny asked as they started walking.
"Journalism. Wish I could hang out with you guys more, you're lucky to have two classes together back to back." Wendy said with a forced smile as she reached her locker.
"Me and Kyle actually have three since we have our first period together too." Stan said, nudging Kyle's side. Kyle laughed sheepishly.
"Yeah well we got economy class together next period." Kenny smiled, putting his arm around Wendy's shoulders. This did make Wendy perk up, but the small irritated looks he got from the two other boys amused Kenny a lot.
"Yeah well I got calc with her after lunch." Kyle laughed.
"So wait, I'm the only one who doesn't have any other classes with you?" Stan asked, kind of dejected. Wendy thought and then shook her head. "Wow, that sucks!"
The bell rang signaling the boys to go or risk being extremely late. "Yeah, but you'll see her at lunch." Kyle commented as the boys walked away.
Wendy heard it but didn't have the time to process it until she was in class later. 'Wait, was that an invite to join them at lunch?' She wasn't entirely sure and she wasn't able to ask about it. The only option she had was to wait to ask Kenny next class. This made the 55 minutes of class pass by extremely slowly as she continued to watch the clock.
When the bell did ring, she practically flew out of her seat. Quickly getting her stuff from her locker and walking to her next class, she basically ignored everything else around her. She might have been a bit too eager because when she got there, she was the only one. Still, she took her seat and waited. Kids filed in one by one or in groups, Wendy simply watched, waiting to spot the orange jacket.
Kenny ran through the door last minute huffing and puffing as the teacher glared at him but gave him the okay to sit down. He silently did a little victory motion as he took a seat next to Wendy that she'd been saving for him.
"Hey." She whispered. Kenny smiled at her and waved under the desk where only she could see. "What happened, you were almost late?"
Kenny rubbed the back of his head. "When it's the three of us, let's say we get off topic pretty easily." He whispered back.
Wendy giggled quietly. "That sounds about right. I actually had a question though." Kenny gave a motion to continue. "Can I have lunch with you guys?"
Kenny nodded and grinned wide. "Sure, but you gotta follow me to our secret spot." He tried to sound mysterious, using his Mysterion voice on the last 2 words.
"You two, no talking!" Mr. Faust said loudly at the front of the class. "You're on thin ice McCormick!"
"Sorry Teach!" Kenny yelped. Faust turned back around and started teaching again.
