~The Time You Actually Run For Your Life~

Start from the beginning

"Yes, he said she would go."

"What?! She's staying here. Safe. So she doesn't cause any more problems for us," Newt says firmly, clamping his hands down on your shoulders and standing close behind you.

You looked behind yourself at him with anger, and an odd feeling. Like the first day, that feeling of loneliness and emptiness. You're just causing problems for them. You're useless. The night you spent in the pit didn't go towards the betterment of the Glade but towards sorting through your own feelings. You're selfish, you're nothing, they don't care about you, you told yourself. You're just a problem for all of them, Gally was probably worried sick and you haven't spoken to him yet today, you're an idiot. Hah, safe to assume Gally would even care. You're worthless. Why did WCKD put me here? Who even are they?

You felt like you were drowning in unwanted thoughts. No, I should focus on helping them.

And so you did. They were all arguing when you surfaced back to reality while Newt was trying to get you to respond instead of having that blank look on your face.

"Guys, I'm going. Let's find this thing."

"Hey! Wait you can't just make that decision," Newt says.

"I'm making it for the betterment of the Glade, like I should've been doing all along according to you," you said harshly back to him. You glared and turned away brushing his hands off of your shoulders.

"We'll be back before the doors close," you said, and then gave him a short hug. He hugged you back tightly before you ran off. Even if you were mad you couldn't not say goodbye.

That you were, the maze doors were just about to close when the group of you poured back into the Glade, metal contraption in hand.

A cut on the side of your leg gushed out blood from when the Griever twitched and snagged your leg a bit. You held the cylinder tightly. Despite your fear, you had seen the blinking light and retrieved it from inside the mechanical but also somehow living, slimy creature.

Apparently you hadn't noticed your injury, but Thomas definitely had and when you crossed the maze border he ran up next to you as you slowed to a walk. He looped his arm under your shoulders to try and help you walk when the adrenaline wore off.

Yeah, good idea because the next moment you almost tripped after only paying attention to Thomas and what the heck he was doing. Let me tell you... p a i n.

Visibly gritting your teeth Thomas steered the both of you towards the med-jack hut. Newt ran up next to you though and gave Thomas a nasty glare.

"You doing alright, love?" he asked, emphasizing the last bit so Thomas would hear it.

"Yeah, just- fine. Ow." You said and then laughed at yourself.

"I don't know how you can laugh in a situation like this. But I'm glad it's kinda okay..?" Thomas questioned slightly.

"Yeah, should be fine once it's patched up." You smiled at the two of them.

After patching up Minho came by telling you to rest now since you'd be getting up bright and early to run once again.

But you still owed Newt the adventure. Okay, you admit it, it might've not been your best idea. But it was definitely fun.
