"That's not funny, idiot."
Dazai's room was a complete mess, and you both had been hanging out in it for the past day or two to avoid doing work. This meant that you had to deal with him leaving piles of trash all around his room and stopping each of his almost hourly suicide attempts.
As you lay on your back and stared at the ceiling, Dazai flipped through a magazine that seemed mind-numbingly stupid. After five minutes of silence, you mumbled, "I want to do something... do you have any ideas?"
Closing his magazine while being lost in thought, Dazai hummed in response before looking at you. After a second, he suggested, "would you be up to scare everyone by going into their rooms and just waiting for them there?"
Your eyes lit up in excitement at the idea of something to do. You stood up and exclaimed, "that's a great idea! I call being the one to scare Ranpo! One thing still on my bucket list is seeing his shocked face. It must be so priceless!"
"Alrighty, well then I'll go with Kunikida," Dazai giggled, standing up and offering you a hand to help you up off of the ground. It took you both a minute or two to brush the dust that you had collected from Dazai's garbage dump of a room off of your outfits.
Together, you walked towards the door before splitting apart. Dazai went left while you went right. "See you, Dazai! Try not to get murdered by Kunikida!"
"I can't make any promises about that!" Then with that, he had disappeared from your sight.
Ranpo forgot to lock his door, so you easily opened it and gasped at how much worse it looked than Dazai. Empty and full snack bags littered the floor. There were even little puddles of certain drinks here and there. You had to be careful when you were stepping over the mess. One wrong move, and you could be injured.
Eventually though, after stepping over all of the dangerous piles of trash, you got to the center of his living room and made yourself comfortable by sitting down on top of a pile of chip bags. Then you had to play the waiting game.
After waiting for an hour, you heard the doorknob jingle. In excitement, you straightened up your back and put on a large smile. As the door opened, you couldn't help but grin wider at the idea of Ranpo being completely shocked by your appearance in his messy room.
Nothing but silence followed the door being open. You stared at the detective who had just entered while taking off his glasses. He hardly seemed to acknowledge you as he walked over to his kitchen counter and set his hat down, taking multiple little candies out of it. Only then did he speak up. "Hey Mochi! I thought you'd try to prank one of the members like this. How was your stay at the Port Mafia? Do you want some taffy?" He looked over at you and smiled.
You gave him a deadpan look. You were so certain you would see him get shocked. Before you could respond, loud yelling from next door broke the awkward silence.
"WHERE WERE YOU, YOU WORTHLESS WEASEL!? WERE YOU JUST SKIPPING OUT ON WORK THE WHOLE TIME? DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH WE FREAKED OUT TRYING TO COVER ALL OF YOUR WORK? YOU MANIPULATIVE, NARCISSISTIC, LITTLE SHITHEAD!"
"Oh dear..." you gasped, "that sounds like Kunikida... Dazai went to prank him. I better go check on them, otherwise Dazai might get his wish and actually die." You slowly stood up off of the trash pile you were sitting on.
Ranpo calmly watched you as you tiptoed through the room, trying to dodge the snack bags. He chewed on a chocolate bar as you exited. Before you left the door, he shouted out, "good luck, Mochi! You're gonna need it!" He proceeded to throw the chocolate bar wrapper towards the empty trash can in the corner of his room. When he missed the trash can, he only shrugged and murmured, "I'll pick that up later... maybe..."
