Chapter 34: Tag

"Hey... why aren't you go-"

You cut her off by yelling, "I'm sorry about this!" Then in a quick second, you crouched down to grab the dagger with your hand. But she seemed to read your moves because before you could even tap it, Anne's hands clamped down onto the ground and dragged it away from you.

Lucy looked at you with a crazed expression. "Were you going to stab me?" Her eyes were wide. It's as if she couldn't believe someone who fought for what was known to be the typical "good side" would have it in their heart to perform such a cold-hearted action. "I should have Anne capture you right now..."

Aware of her presence above you, you immediately tried to sprint forward and away from Anne. Of course, that's when you realized just how quick the villain was. Her dark orange hands clamped down on you, restricting your breathing space and squeezing hard on you. You tried the best you could to get out of her grasp, but it was all to no avail.

"Shit," you breathed out. Turning around, you saw Junichiro and Atsushi gazing at you with worried eyes.

After holding you for what felt like an hour (it was actually only two minutes or so), she let go, causing you to collapse on the floor the moment your feet touched the ground, trying to catch your breath.

Sending another quick glance to the center of the room made you notice Atsushi leaping from one foot to the other, as if trying to decide whether he should stay safe and not help you or if he should run towards you and make sure you were okay. Junichiro's worried glance, on the other hand, quickly turned back into a glare as he continued to face Lucy.

"You can go to your little friends now I guess," Lucy sighed, waving her hand up in the air as you slowly got up and went to stand with Junichiro, Atsushi, and the ugly doctor-man. "What fun is there in an unfair game of tag?"

The moment you got safely over to them, Atsushi embraced you and asked, "(Y/N)! Are you alright! Did Anne's grasp hurt you? Did anything else happen?"

Honestly, Junichiro didn't know whether he should join in making sure you were safe or not. Of course he was worried out of his mind about you at the current moment, but he also still had conflicted feelings about whether or not it was alright for him to like the person he wasn't dating (who had an ever-growing collection of simps, by the way) and grow out of love with Naomi.

"I'm fine," you answered, lightly chuckling at Atsushi's frantic state as he checked your body for any wounds. "But more importantly, what's our battle strategy?"

"Our?" Atsushi raised an eyebrow at you. "No, you should go and get somewhere safe. Junichiro and I can take care of this."

"What? Do you even know me?" You were shocked that Atsushi would even dare to suggest that you leave the battle. "Our friends are in danger and you're asking me to chicken out? I can hold my own in a fight and you know that. Don't dare suggest that I leave."

Atsushi seemed to still not like the idea, but shut up anyway. Even though he didn't like it, you were right.

He then turned around to face the doctor behind you all. He looked like a regular guy with a white lab coat and slick black hair. All in all... he looked disgusting. Something about him just wasn't giving you good vibes. He also seemed a little bit familiar...

"It's not safe here... you need to run," Atsushi told the man.

"But the girl I'm looking for might be here," he replied, only casting a quick glance in your direction. Wait... Your eyes widened as your mind wandered to a period of your life long forgotten by you. It was like a locked box in your brain, you couldn't open up those memories no matter how hard you tried. But now it felt like you were able to take the slightest peek into the box.
