Chapter Forty-Two- No More light

Start from the beginning

"Hold your daughter, Prince Zurich." She forced a smile. "She's strong and healthy."

I hear her, but my hands are stuck at my sides. As she stood before me, every one of my senses heightened. I became even more aware of the slow beating of her heart. It was...odd. A faint memory of my own time as a half-blood entered my mind. Yes, this was indeed normal. Helen prepares to hand her to me and instinctively my hands go out to receive her.

As she places her in my arms, wrapped in a thick, purples blanket A'Miza ordered for her months ago online. She was keen on ordering only neutral colors since we could not see what we were having. Helen placed her in my arms, and I looked down at her. Her eyes were opened as she looked up at me with curious, brown eyes that matched her perfect, brown skin. She was so bloody small...and beautiful, a blend of us both.

"Sire, we'll need to use her-"

"For what?" I gritted at her. Helen stepped back, afraid. "Her powers, sire, she can kill Selene."

I looked at her and noted that this woman must have lost her damn mind.

"She won't have to do anything, we just need to power up the blade."

"What fucking blade?"

"Us Maleficus' have had a blade that comes as a part of the Book of Lives" She rambled, "it was for whenever a royal was grossly abusing their power and an R.M. needed to remove them quietly."

My brows raised at her. What?

"Yes, we've always had it, but we've never had to use it, " she rambled nervously. "We've never actually had the magic to use it but now we do."

Oh. So the Maleficus' had a contingency, eh? One they kept secret. Everyone and their fucking secrets! Should Selene know of such a blade, we'd all be fucking dead. But it seemed they've always needed my daughters magic, or something like it to actually use the damn thing.

My eyes beamed red, and my fangs itched against my gums. She stepped back again.

"Sire, the longer we take, the more of our people die, please!" Helen begged. "It won't hurt her, she won't feel a thing."

I felt the warm, half-blood, wriggle in my arms and looked from Helen to her. It was like a magnet, the force I felt when I looked down at her. My eyes darted from her to...

Her mother.

She looked like she was only sleeping. A'Miza...what am I to do right now? Tell me.

"Sire we need to hurry," the Doctor pressed.

"Please, you all-"I began, but found myself losing the ability to speak. A'Miza knew what she was doing here, didn't she? Yes. Smart... and stubborn. She gave me a daughter, a piece of her and a way to win all at the same time. It all cost me her. I found myself nodding at Helen, while looking at my, A'Miza on the bed. Sleeping. I may be losing my mind right now, but what I won't lose is no one else I care for, since I've lost the one I love. Looking down at the new life in arms, I made a decision. Our eyes met, and something else in me broke.

You will be loved. Like your mother taught me. Strong, senseless, all-encompassing...with everything I have, I will love you. And with everything your mother never wanted me to be, I will be to protect you.

Kissing her forehead, I savored the new human smells coming from her as she cooed. Resting her tiny forehead on my own, I stood there, and just when I thought Helen was at her wits ends, I passed the baby to her. "Do what you must," I breathed, feeling my body tense as a response to handing her off. "I am trusting you Helen, you should know what that means for you."
