Ellie thought (Y/N) would take a moment to collect herself. Instead (Y/N) immediately stood back up, and went to undo the strap on Ellie's arm and help Ellie to her feet.

"Are you okay?" She whispered and wrapped Ellie in a tight hug.

"I... I'm good," Ellie whispered, "Thanks. You saved me."

"We're a team Ellie. You and me."

"You and me." Ellie echoed with a tiny smile.

They both looked down at David. Ellie wanted to kill him, but he was starting to pull himself together. They needed to leave quickly and they both knew it. The two girls hesitated for a moment, but ultimately ran out of the room. David reached for his gun, but he was still in too much pain to properly move, much less aim.

Ellie was relieved to see her knife stabbed into a board right outside the door, as they ran out she quickly snatched it. The two girls launched themselves over and out of the nearest window.

Ellie decided to kill the silence as they ran through the cold wind, "Oh, man. What the fuck is wrong with these people?"

"Dad always said not to ask questions like that," (Y/N) responded, "monsters exist because good people exist. It's a sort of balance."

"And we're good people?" Ellie asked.

She watched her friend's face morph, seemingly unsure before she nodded, "I don't think we're monsters, at the very least."

They could hear David shouting behind them as they rushed into one of the buildings.

"We need to find some guns," Ellie said feverishly, "Let's hope we find something in here."

"Even one gun...," her friend whispered and flicked her flashlight on. She'd always attached it to her jacket, not her backpack.

Ellie looked over at her as she cradled the wound on her side.

"Oh shit!" Ellie whispered. "You're bleeding again!"

(Y/N) looked down and felt the wound. Her jacket was a dark color, but they could see the dried blood from a wound left to bleed through its wrappings.

"It's fine." (Y/N) responded quickly and offered a tiny smile. "Let's worry about it when we get out of here. It's too dangerous to stop and properly treat it."

Ellie put a hand on her friend's back, trying to offer her some comfort.

"When we get out and get to Seth, I'm sure he'll treat it. You're not going to bleed to death, right?" Ellie said with a nervous laugh.

(Y/N) was silent for a moment, but then she smiled with an exhausted look. "I'm sure it'll be fine, Ellie."

Ellie decided it was better to drop it and began to pull her friend along. They crawled around, taking advantage of any opening in the buildings that they could find. And they ended up in a broken down convenience store.

"Where the hell —?" Ellie started.

" — Shh!" (Y/N) cut her off and tilted her head, "Listen!"

"We heard gunshots!" They heard a man yell through the storm.

"Infected!" They heard David shriek.

"What?"

"One of the girls, — she was infected and managed to get out."

"What?" One of the men howled in disgust. "This is bad, David! We have people here!"

David was silent for a moment, seemingly thinking about what he should do. "Alright. I need you to round up everyone who isn't armed and get them out of here. We're gonna find that girl, and we're gonna kill her."
