S1 CH 1 The Vanishing of Will Byers

"So are we under house arrest?" Nina asks.

"No, Nina. We're the two little princesses locked in our own tower." Nora lashed out on her mother.

"Nora." Mrs. Porter glared at her daughter.

"Congrats, Nina." Nora said sarcastically. "We have reached our final destination . . . hell!"

"Hey!" Mr. Porter said sternly.

"Nora! You watch your mouth! You know there is no cursing in this household!" Mrs. Porter scolded her daughter.

Nora only grumbles at her mother.

"Listen." Mrs. Porter began. "I know your frustrated, but I don't want you two to end up missing. I want you here in this house, safe and sound with Mamá and Dad. That's why we're setting a few rules."

"Wait, wait, what rules?" Nora asks, digging her nails into the wooden table.

Mrs. Porter grabs her fork and knife and begins to cut her food. "For your safety, your Dad and I came up with a few rules. For one, after school you will immediately come home and not hang out with your friends. Second, instead of doing homework after dinner, you'll do it as soon as you get home. Third, after dinner you'll go straight to bed. Some additional rules are: no going outside, no walking the dog, no biking or hanging around with friends, and no going out in the backyard to go inside your treehouse."

"Come on! This is bullshit!" Nora yelled.

"Nora!" Mr. Porter gasps.

"That's it! You go to your room right now!" Mrs. Porter said pointing upstairs.

Nora huffs and slams her hands on the wooden table loudly. She storms out of the dinning room and hurries up the stairs to her room.

She opens her bedroom door and slams it shut, so loudly that the entire house can hear it.

Nina looked over to her mom who only took in a heavy sigh and continued to eat her food.

"Do you think we went to hard on her?" Mr. Porter asks.

Mrs. Porter turns to her husband. "She needs to learn that there are rules and she needs to obey them, that's all."

Mr. Porter only sighs and shakes his head, picking up his fork and continuing to eat his dinner.

Nina looks back to her plate. She scoots her chair back and stands up.

"I'm going to go talk to her."

She excuses herself from the table and heads upstairs, leaving her parents to sit in the dinning room without saying a single word to each other.

Nina reached the top of the stairs and walks through the hallway. She walks towards Nora's bedroom door, a handmade sign made by Nora herself and an additional one saying 'Enter At Your Own Risk'.

Nina knocks on the door. "Knock-knock. May I enter?"

"Who is it that is preparing to enter my domain?" Nora's muffled voice came through the door.

Nina confidently chuckles and pulls off a smug look on her face.

"Why, it is your most favorite, bestest, and most awesomest big sister in the whole wide world!" Nina said with a British accent.

A small giggle came out of Nora's room as she heard her clear her throat.

"You may enter." Nora said.

Nina smiles and opens the door. What most people think of a child's room is to be messy and disorganized, but in Nora's case, her room was extremely clean and organized. Not a single thing out of place. It was all tidy and clean, and that's how Nora likes it.
