"Oh! I got you - well, us, really - something."
"I actually got you something too." Marcus leaned over the edge of the couch, reaching down and filing through the pile of his things that he'd let fall to the floor as he got comfortable on your couch earlier in the night, finally grabbing onto something and pulling it up and tucking it behind his back.
"Really?"
"I call him..." Marcus pulled the item out from behind him, two hand firmly grasping the soft tufts of beige fluff between his fingers: a sweet, little teddy bear, a red, lace bow tied around its neck and adorable button eyes. "Mr Bear Bearington the third."
"Oh my god." Grabbing out for the small teddy, you gently placed your hands above Marcus's larger ones, holding his as you looked up at him, waiting for him to nod before you took the bear into your own hands.
"It's not much, but I saw it and thought you'd like it." Marcus looked as shy as you'd ever seen him, crashing into the hard arm of the couch in, if you didn't know him better, what felt like an attempt to get away from you. Create space in the tension that was thick between the two of you.
"Marcus, sweetie, are you kidding? I love him." You smushed the soft fur of Mr Bear Bearington III against your cheek, looking over your new sons' shoulder at Marcus, he looked on at you and the bear in adoration, unbeknownst to the fact you could see the loving look that covered his face.
Placing the cuddly toy into Marcus's lap, you stood from your seat on the sofa, walking across the short length of the room to your kitchen counter, where three, large, heart shaped boxes sat. "I stole three of the big boxes that Amy was meant to throw out. Why would anyone say no to free chocolate? Especially the fancy little ones they put in this shit."
Picking up the boxes, you balanced the stack against your hip, curving around the edge of the couch to sit directly beside Marcus. Smushing into his side, you curled into his warmth, his arm wrapping around your shoulders, over the back of the low couch cushions, his hand hanging above your collar bone.
Grabbing Mr Bear Bearington III you tucked him between the two of you, your son cuddled between his two new parents, and you swung your legs into Marcus's now empty lap. Placing a red heart into your lap, and another on your knees for Marcus to reach into, you tossed the third one onto the floor in front of the two of you.
Opening the big, heart-shaped boxes, you tucked into the fancy Valentine's Day chocolate, some romcom playing in the background as you bit into the chocolates, trying the different flavours and rating them, swapping the ones you didn't quite like with ones Marcus didn't quite like so you'd both be happy; a pile of blue-dyed molasses rid of into the empty takeout boxes on the coffee table.
"Ew, Coconut."
"I got praline, want to switch?" You forcibly swallowed down the chunk you had already bitten into, lifting the rest of the coconut-filled chocolate to Marcus's lips, then wrapping around the sweetness and chewing into it. He offered the praline out to you, something much more to your tastes, and you took it gratefully, swallowing it down in one bite.
Marcus looked at you, his eyes meeting yours, then looking past you, his eyes settling on something behind you, a wicked grin curling onto his face. "Wait, what is that?"
Turning and following his eye-line, your eyes met the coat hanger that stood tall on the hinge side of the door, the key table on the left. Your eyes raked over the scene before you, wondering what could be causing the wicked grin that rested on his face: then your eyes landed on the beige bomber jacket that had been in your possession for a long while. "You can have it back. I didn't mean to keep it for so long. I just... kind of... forgot."
