"To tell you that the standard animagus transformation won't work for you."
Harry was surprised, and even a little hurt that Aren didn't think he was capable of performing the magic. Did she think that because he couldn't best Metus he was too weak to even do this standard casting.
All he did though, was try to find more information, "Why?"
"Because, my dear, you don't have a soul animal. The average wizard goes through the process of an animagi study to determine what creature they relate to most closely, and then use magic to help bridge the gap.
"Wizards can only turn into a single creature, unless they are transfigured, in which case they could become anything, but not without their brain reverting to that of the creature they are. The reason that the animagus transformation allows them to keep their mental acuity is because they are already so close to the animal intrinsically."
"So are you saying I'm not close enough to any animal to transform?" Harry asked sadly.
Aren sounded shocked at this question, and responded, "No, of course not. You can turn into any creature, but only so long as you feel like that animal internally. You've actually already done it before. Do you remember when you were in Gringotts that first time, and you'd just created all of your money in the vault?"
"How did you know about that?" Harry inquired, surprised.
Aren laughed softly, "Dear, you were using magic. I am magic, which means I can feel it being used, as it is under my purview as a balance."
"Oh, okay," Harry said, still not getting it, "But what does that have to do with anything?"
"After you lost control of your power, and bled it off by creating the things necessary for the creation of your club, you'd accidentally made the Ineas. In that moment, do you recall how you felt?"
He drew up the memory of that day. He'd made so much money, wanting to fill his vault, and simply have it to pay for the things he would need. Then, the magic was coming too fast, and he wasn't able to control it so he'd opened a mindscape and flooded it with the magic, directing it to become everything he'd need to build his night club.
There was so much excess power that he'd created the Ineas on accident, as they could do the physical labor required to construct his club. He remembered feeling terrible, how he'd feeling small and useless, but had also felt very young and inexperienced, like he was batting at the ball of yarn called magic, and had unraveled it too far and gotten caught up in it.
"I do remember. Why?"
"Still you cannot see? Do you remember what happened immediately after that?"
Harry searched his mind, trying to pull up the memory. He'd been looking in the mirror in the vault at Gringotts, and then. . . and then he'd changed! He'd turned into a kitten because in his heart, that was what he felt like. Small, playing with things he didn't understand, young, and helpless.
"I turned into a kitten!" Harry exclaimed, "So does that mean I can turn into a kitten? Is that my animagus transformation."
"Harry darling, use your ears. I told you that you don't have a soul animal. I need to explain this better though. An ordinary wizard can only turn into the animal they relate to best. That's because they're already so close to being that animal.
"You are very flexible though, and too changeable to only have a single creature you can turn into. There are limitations on your abilities though, at least when you start in the form of a wizard. I'm sure if you started in your true form you could become anything you want."
"So you're saying I can turn into multiple different animals?" Harry asked, hopefully, still not quite understanding.
Aren, even though she was just a swirling vortex of colors, seemed irritated with him as she continued, "I hadn't finished explaining yet. There are limitations on what animals you are able to turn into based on how you're feeling. Tell me, how do you feel right now?"
"I feel. . . Curious. And excited, and tired, and weak because Metus broke through my mental barriers-"
"What?!" Aren almost shrieked, "What did you just say?"
"Metus kidnapped me-" Aren gasped "-And then he took me into a different dimension. He got through my barriers but then I passed out."
"Not good," Aren muttered, "Not good at all! Oh balances cracked, what are we going to do?" she only then seemed to realize she was speaking aloud and immediately stopped.
He desperately wanted to ask her more about Metus, but remembered how every time someone tried to talk to him about it in the past, they had begun to choke. He only sighed, and decided to continue asking about his animal shifting abilities.
"So," he started again, "You had been asking how I was feeling?"
"Yes dear," Aren said defeatedly, "Please continue."
"I also feel powerful though, which is weird. And intelligent too. I look at the other children that are my age, and I feel different," Harry said, a bit sadly. What would it have been like to be normal?
"Oh sweetie," she said emotionally, suddenly her colors funneling downwards to reveal a woman who seemed to be made of gold before reaching out and embracing him, "I wish you didn't feel this way. You're so special, and you're capable of such great things. Maybe you aren't like your peers in some ways, but you are a miracle. Do you understand me? You are a miracle. I love you, my siblings love you, your mates love you, and so do your friends. Never, ever forget that."
"I won't," Harry said shyly, blushing a bit, partially pleased to hear she loved him, and a bit ashamed that he was wishing for still more when he'd already been given so much.
"Ah," Aren said, "Now back to the matter of changing into animals. However you feel in the moment, you can turn into an animal that matches it. You said you felt intelligent, so you could transform into a dolphin, orangutan, elephant, gorilla, really any intelligent animal, so long as you concentrated on that emotion and followed that connection with your magic. Oh, and you can transform into any magical creature too I suppose. Since wizards are also magical creatures, you are close enough to turn into one. Why don't you try it now? I can help you if you'd like."
Harry smiled at Aren, "No thank you. I think I'd like to try it myself first. But what do you think I should turn into first?"
"I really couldn't say. Maybe your favorite creature?"
Harry pondered that for a moment, then a smile spread widely across his face, and he closed his eyes, feeling the magic coursing through him and altering his body.
A/N: I fell asleep accidentally before finishing the chapter yesterday (again), so that's why I wasn't able to post.
Reactions?
Also, if there are any ideas that you want to share for future parts, I'd love to hear them! (Though I have already decided what his first purposeful transformation is going to be FYI)
