It's the truth though. Me? Cooking better than her? She has to be lying.

"You think I'm playing but I'm dead serious. This is just breakfast though. We'll see how you do come dinner time." She challenged.

I raised a brow. "That's a challenge?" I questioned. "Yep." She answered.

"Alright then, bet." I accepted. She smiled as she continued to eat. Finally finishing her food she handed her plate to me. I was going to leave the bedroom and throw the plate in the trash that's until a thought popped up in my head.

Changing plans, I sat the plate on my dresser and sat on the edge of the bed making eye contact with Penda.

"What's wrong?" She peeped. "You said you had something to tell me last night. I wanna know what it is." I reminded her.

"Oh, that... well basically, Leonardo went live and spread a bunch of lies on me." She told me.

I shook my head. He's at it again?

"I'm surprised you ain't see it on social media." She added.

"I haven't been on social media so that explains it all." I replied.

"How are you... Mentally?" She questioned in all seriousness.

"Oh I'm straight." I lied as I tried to laugh it off. In other words, laugh to keep from crying.

She kept a serious face. "Dashon."

"Okay... honestly, I just feel helpless.. I mean my grandmother is gone and it's nothing I can do to make that pain go away. It's also nothing I can do to bring her back here. I'm so hurt I don't even want to go to the funeral, I don't want to view the body, I don't want to do any of that because it's just going to break me down more." I confessed.

"One of the most important people in my life is gone and it's nothing that I can do about it." I vented as I wiped a few tears.

"But, that's life right? Tuh, life fucking sucks sometimes. If it wasn't for my mama and kids I would've un-alived myself that night." I truthfully stated.

"Don't talk like that-" "it's the truth. The only people I got is my mama and my kids. They are the only people who's  keeping me sane right now." I spoke truthfully.

Breaking eye contact, she noticed and she made me turn to face her.

"Hey, you got me too." She said. Something about that just warmed my heart. I just feel like I can trust her. I know I can trust her.

"Well then let's- let's make this thing official then." I told her.

"What official?" "Us." "Dashon, I already told you that I don't want to get in a relationship until-"

"until both of us are divorced, yeah." He said. Silence filled the room.

"I get what you are saying Penda. I really do... but we love each other and we have feelings for each other.. so what else is there to wait on?" He questioned.

She sighed. "I just- I just don't want to open a new door without closing the old one first, you know?" She tried to get him to understand.

He nodded. "Yeah, I understand." He said. "And speaking of divorce, I got a court date. It's on the 26th of February. Have you worked on yours?" He asked.

"Yep. I'm almost done filling everything out." She said. He nodded looking down. She noticed that and she grabbed his hand.

"Hey, I didn't mean to make you upset." She assured him. He raised an eyebrow. "Why would I be upset Penda? I'm not, at all. I love you and I'm willing to wait for you. I'm willing to start this relationship whenever you feel that you're ready to do so." He stated.
