Chapter 34 - Ni kar'tayl gai sa'ner

Start from the beginning

An instantaneous blush bloomed on my cheeks and I felt butterflies awaken. As though I tried to hide it, Rex wouldn't have it. He chuckled and guided my love stricken eyes to meet his once more. A golden ribbon tied us together when our eyes mirrored each other, sealing a trancelike state of adoration. His fingers grazed my skin as an admirer caressed the altar of his godess with utmost care. The other hand, resting gently on my back was of that a leaf on calm waters. Yet the feeling was one of great security. Like the pillar holds a promise of stability with undoubted certainty, he gave the very same promise.

"(Y/N)?"

"Yes, Rex?"

He paused for the slightest of moments, almost like he couldn't believe he had the courage to say the words that gracefully fell from his devine lips,

"I want to be with you. Not just now, I want to be with you for the rest of our time. I know that I won't live as long as you will, but... would you allow me to love you for all the moments we spend together and the moments we are apart?"

Heart kissed by the gods of love and ecstasy themselves I was alight from within. Golden and clear love flowed through my veins as the man in front of me had blessed me with the greatest offering of all; his heart.

"Rex, I will love you for when we are together and for when we are apart. I would be the luckiest woman in our galaxy to have a man like you make such a request. Yes, yes I will allow you."

A moth to a flame, a lover to a lover, he drew me in. Our lips met in a kiss sanctioned from the divinity of pure, young love. He held me close, afraid that it would all be a fiction of his imagination in a night's sleep. And so did I, I held him close. Afraid that he would be gone soon, never for me to hold and love again.

"Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum." ("I love you.")

"Ni kar'tayl gar darasuum." ("I love you.")

At that, a piece of the broken heart I carried in my emptiness wafted up into the hands of my soul. Glistening in a hue so hopeful it couldn't do anything but swear protection over it for the end of time. Placed in the mould where a lost heart belonged, it moulded together with ones already there. It was not healed to its born form, but it was neither empty nor void of all life. It had all it could ever need to recover once more. Love and hope. Yet, the thought lingered like the lonely bare vine at the back. Time would still hold it back and mercilessly drag on as it had always done. It would need a lot of time, patience and care, but a scar will form nonetheless. A scar of hurt, love and two names.

The last three days that had been given to us on Coruscant had come and gone faster than anyone would've liked. Rex had kept his promise and had gone with me to the GAR supplier to get me a new vibro-blade after losing my first to Hondo. It looked the same and weighed the same as the old, but the design was slightly sleeker. Now I had it in its seeth at the back of my belt where I had always kept it. Feeling its weight and knowing that it was there was bringing me loads of comfort. Currently, I was promenading up the massive ramp to the cruiser with Jesse, Echo and Fives, engaged in a discussion about some newly rumoured tech that was apparently floating around the black market.

"No, no, no. The interchanging locks on the clamp couldn't possibly be metal alloy! It would be far too easy to break apart, I mean give it a good kick and you've got it falling into tiny pieces! Even Fives would be able to tamper with it then!"

Fives glared at Echo,

"Hey! What's that supposed to mean?!"

"Relax, vod. You're overthinking it."
