Fives whipped around to Jesse on the other side of me,
"I'll have you know that I never overthink anything!"
"That's why you always end up in messy situations that end with a lecture from Rex."
I snorted,
"Echo's got a point, Fives."
Now I was on the receiving end of Fives offended look,
"I thought you were on my side in this, (Y/N)."
Raising my hands defensively I countered,
"I'm sorry, vod."
Fives walked ahead so he could turn and walk backwards, facing us as he started acting the part of being heartbroken.
"How could you do this to me?! I thought you were a part of our aliit!"
I chuckled at his drama performance. Echo dragged his hand tiredly over his face, clearly excited to be back to sharing bunk beds with him again. Jesse was humoured by him and watched on with glittering eyes. Fives continued as we slowly but surely made our way into the cruiser. Once inside, we got a few looks from the other troopers that milled about or were on their way to their barracks. But none of us cared, although some -like Echo- on the outside seemed bothered by his antics. We secretly loved it. Fives was a beam of sunshine, always finding light in any situation and could disarm even the grumpiest of Tusken Raiders with his natural charm. As we walked further inside the cruiser, we were surrounded by more and more people. Mechanics, who were mostly non-clones, crewmembers, troopers and officers. Fives still walking backwards whilst talking to us, didn't notice Rex behind him and bumped him,
"Oh! Hi, Captain! I thought you weren't coming until 0900?"
Rex brushed off the bump and let his shoulders go slack,
"I wasn't, but I got done earlier than expected."
His eyes finally landed on me, a pull of his mouth painting a smirk on his lips as he walked over. There was a glint in his eyes that made me slightly suspicious.
"Ah, well if it isn't my favourite mechanic."
His voice was low and deliberate, sending shivers down my back. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him. I was... well a bit shocked.
"Ha! I told you that they were official! Now hand over the credits!"
I looked at Fives that had exclaimed and a sour Jesse that unwillingly handed over a few credits. Fives counted them and grinned,
"Pleasure doing business with you."
"Whatever."
Arms crossed he looked at Rex with a raised brow,
"You know, I thought you were deathly afraid of people finding out about you and (Y/N)."
"Yeah, I thought so too."
Rex smiled and rubbed his hand on my back to soothe the slight tinge of worry that he had picked up on.
"I was, but since I found out that almost the entire battalion knows it already, it really didn't seem necessary to sneak around anymore."
He looked down at me and in the brief silence he asked me if I was okay with it. Smiling and leaning into him I nodded, I was more than okay with it. Rex continued in a voice that was made to sound uninterested,
"That and I happened to hear about a bet that was whether me or (Y/N) would make it clear that we were together in the near future. I guess you can say that I decided to tip the scale a little."
