Home Is Where You Are

Start from the beginning

For the second time that morning, Jennie hears her phone vibrating loudly on the bedside table. She hurriedly turns the alarm off, careful not to disturb her sleeping lover cradling her carefully before they finally get into a comfortable position. Has her hands caressing Lisa's side to lull her. Her baby needs all the rest she could get.

Early mornings like these are precious. Jennie wouldn't have it any other way. She won't give it up for anything else.

Her phone vibrates once more, and Jennie willfully ignores it, preferring not to move in her cuddle pile. Unlike her alarm, this time it only vibrates once.

A message, probably. Sleep it off, she thinks, because this moment is theirs. A sanctuary that's only reserved for Jennie and Lisa.

Nothing else.

"Baby, have you seen my tie?" Lisa tries to ask calmly, but Jennie knows her nerves are all over the place.

Ever since Lisa took the job of being a professor in Hanlim Arts Institute, her responsibilities have doubled, but it had definitely helped put food on the table. There was no question about Lisa loving the academe route she's good at what she does.

Jennie could definitely vouch for it. She had been Lisa's student after all.

Being a professor at an art school also meant students are focused on their expertise their programs hold numerous exhibitions throughout the year. Lisa had been tasked to organize each event ever since the year started and it's taken a toll on her with the amount of pressure the job requires with it. Not only does she have to be a teacher, she also has to be an organizer doing all the preparations and logistics for the events.

She knows she was supposed to delegate, but Lisa had been hands-on ever since she was assigned the responsibility of it-it was tiring, but Jennie could see how passionate and happy Lisa was about it. No matter how exhausted Lisa was all throughout everything that was happening-at the end of each event, she was excruciatingly satisfied proud of her students and of herself. She recognizes them as achievements and so does Jennie, she can't be more proud than anyone else-that's her baby after all.

So Jennie supports her through it all. Being by her side was never a question, she'd be there picking her up and driving her around whenever she was too tired or lounging around their couch eating junk food and drinking beer in lieu of fancy date nights at expensive restaurants. She'll be there whenever and wherever Lisa needs her.

Like the back of her hand, Jennie understands which necktie Lisa is talking about, fishing for it in one of their drawers and pulling out a dark purple one. She sees the way her lover sighs in relief, shoulders sagging as Jennie places the tie around her neck, giving her a light peck on the cheek.

"Baby, I know you're nervous, and that's okay. But know that you're going to do great, okay? The exhibit will be a success!" Jennie encourages her as she expertly fixes Lisa's tie, offering her what she hopes to be a reassuring smile.

Lisa is still visibly nervous with the way she's biting her lower lip but her large doe eyes are already staring at Jennie. In all their years together, Lisa has always been the more mature, reassuring one the calm and chill one whenever potential issues or problems arise.

"You don't know that, what if something bad happens? What if someone knocks over a painting or a sculpture? What if some of the kids get stage fright?" Lisa rambles, fingers fidgeting, eyes scanning all over the room.
