"Suck up." Lex and I say at the same time.
"No son it is okay." Dad replied still putting out silverware.
"Hey silently sexy, you staying for dinner?" Lex asked Nile. I swear this is Lex's house instead of mine. Nile looked to me for confirmation and I shrugged. He stared at me as if asking me for a clear answer. Nodding lightly I watch the relief take over his face. It confuses me a bit how much he needs confirmation. I hope he doesn't think my little changing the subject means I don't still want answer. He needs to give me answers.
"Dad can I give Nile one of your shirts?" I ask my dad seeing how Nile was dressed in a really nice shirt.
"Sure go ahead."
Leaving the kitchen Nile, Lex and I walked to my room. It was weird hanging out with the two of them together let alone at my house. Pushing the hair out of my face I grabbed a long sleeved shirt from my dads dresser. I threw it at Nile who caught it with ease. Stupid boy just made me a little more attracted to him.
" I am stealing sweats." Lex yelled from my closet. I told you this is more her house than mine. Shaking my hair a little bit I threw myself on my bed. This day has been long and I couldn't shake the feeling of worry that took over me as the thought of Nile's dad filled my head. The bed dipped a little making me aware that someone was sitting next to me.
"You tired curly sue?"
"Just a little, but I am more hungry than anything else. So, lets go eat." To be honest having him near me did something to me and I didn't know what.
Dinner went good. Dad cooked some kind of chicken casserole and although it looked a little off it was amazing. Lex left right after she was supposed to go get her sister from her babysitters. She almost forgot about her sister. That is classic Lex. It was now about 10 pm and dad still had work to do.
"Hey kiddo I am going to go down to my office and finish some paper work for tomorrow. Can you load the dishwasher?"
"I mean I guess." I joked. Ruffling my hair he kissed me on my forehead and patted Nile on the back. I observed his face to see if Nile flinched. He didn't flinch , but he did look a little in pain.
"Dad, Nile and I are going to go for a walk to work off some of this food and then I'll clean up."
"Okay kid. Nile you better make sure my daughter comes back in one piece."
"Yes sir." Nile said smiling and throwing an arm around my shoulder. I looked at him and then at the arm around me talk about bipolar.
We left the house with Nile's arm still wrapped around me. Butterflies flew around in my stomach, but the questions that have taken up residence in my mind were my only concern. I needed answer if not to everything that at least just a little insight into the boy that I was slowly but surely becoming fond of.
"Come out with it." Nile said breaking my concentration and confusing me a bit. As if he was reading my thoughts "Your questions Curly sue. The wheels in your head aren't just turning they are working overtime."
" Are you actually going to answer them?" I asked not wanting to waste my time or his.
"To the best of my ability." He said scratching the back of his head. For the first time I looked at him. His dark brown hair was adorably messy and his hazel eyes were intense and I just wanted to hug him. "First question curly sue."
"Lets walk." I said grabbing his hand and pulling him behind me. Leading us to the park that was a few blocks away I held his hand a little tighter.
" I'll race you to the swings." I tried to release his hand but he pulled me back. Then let go and raced towards the swing. He took off and I tried to catch up, but his long legs got him there easily. He was just about to sit on the swing when as if a light bulb went off I got an Idea. Yelping out in pain I pretended to hurt my ankle. Within moments Nile was next to me. I tried as hard as I could not to laugh but I failed miserably and busted out laughing in his face.
"Did you just play me?" Nile asked towering over me. His shoulders squared as his arms were folded across his chest. I smiled at him and mimicked his stance. This must be a sight. Even on my tippy toes I barely reached Nile's shoulder. In all my five foot two inch glory I tried to hold my own.
"So, what if I did?" I questioned getting tired of standing on my toes. I am really going to need to strengthen my legs if I am going to survive on this dance team.
"If you did." He said slowly taking a few steps towards me. Wavering a bit I stepped back. " It would be a mistake."
" You know what they say you have to use a persons weaknesses against them." I said quickly mustering up an arrogant smile.
"Are saying that you are my weakness?" He asked stepping back again. My eyes widen when I realized how he interpreted what I said. What I meant was his weakness was his good nature. "What happened curly sue? Cat got your tongue?"
I shook my head. " I didn't mean it that way." I tried to justify.
"Well you should have."
"Wait what?" Inching closer to me he put his arm on my shoulder. I subconsciously shivered a bit. Nile pulled me into a hug and as strange as it sounds this was beginning to be my favorite place. I was confused by his actions as always, but everything stopped when he hugged me. I could feel his heart racing as I laid my head against his chest. Nile held on tightly reassuring me that he shared my unspoken feelings.
"I really want to kiss you curly sue." He said that burst of confidence he always seems to have around me coming out. Looking at his eyes and then at his lips I waited for our lips to touch. However, instead he pulled away from me his arms resting on my waist squeezing lightly.
"But I can't do that you. Not until you know."
