15. I can be better

"You good darling?" Eddie asked her with a smile on his face as he sat next to her on the edge of his bed. She smiled and looked at him, slowly nodding her head. Her eyes were red from the drug and he was amazed by how much he is finding out about this girl. He was relaxed too, but he was used to it, so the effects were minor.

"Eddie?" She called him out and it was the first time she ever said his name. He flinched at the sudden change, liking it a little too much for his own benefit.

"Yes, darling?" He asked and she looked at him for a few seconds and then shook her head. She wanted to ask him to be her friend, but she knew he doesn't trust her, even in a situation like this, and she understands completely his side.

"Nevermind..." She said and then he looked to his night table. He licked his lips and then turned to give his full attention to her, sitting with his legs wrapped with eachother.

"Hey... I have a question." He said and she looked up at him. She was relaxed, but not unconscious, so she can easily answer his questions. "Why did you do that to Wheeler?" He asked and she cocked her head to the side.

"Wheeler male, Wheeler female...?" She asked and he played with his rings.

"Female." He said and she gulped, not wanting to give him the true reason for her doings, but she guessed that if he hasn't told anyone her secrets yet, one more couldn't hurt. She just didn't care at the moment.

"Envy." She said and he blinked at her, not understanding her reasoning at all. She was pretty herself, she was the most popular girl at school, has all the boys she wants, why would she be envious of Nancy Wheeler? "She has things I don't... We were friends you know? When I first entered school, she showed me all around, even took me shopping... Then I became friends with Steve and well... I found out what she did to him... At first, I was mad but I wasn't going to do anything, but then... I heard..." She stopped before she mentioned Jason's name. "I heard everyone saying something should be done about her." She looked at the window, trying to gather her thoughts as she kept talking. "I became popular, completely stopped talking to Nancy, and I knew that for me to be the leader of them all, I had to do something, but my heart did not let me." She said to him and he blinked when she said heart. 

"Until... I found out she was still dating Byers even though distance was in between them... She was good in her grades, boys wanted her, and... She had friends." She was staring blankly at the window, remembering how Nancy laughed through the corridors, while she walked alone towards practice. How Nancy talked endlessly with Robin at the cafeteria, while she had to endure Janet talking about how many guys she fucked. How she saw Nancy walking through the mall with Robin and Max, with ice cream cones in one hand, shopping bags on the other, and Y/N was buying clothes by herself. 

"So... I did that. I faked a letter from Byers. I wanted her to not be perfect anymore." She finished saying and then looked at Eddie. Her eyes slightly widened as she noticed how he was looking at her. She never felt more exposed than she was now, even more than monday night. He was looking at her with disgust plastered on his face. And he was, he was completely disgusted by her attitude.

"There's... It's no excuse Y/N..." He said just that and she felt her heart do a jump. She felt her blood pumping rapidly through her whole body. He definitely hates her now, more so than before and she feels conflicted by that fact.

"I know. But I did it, and there's no turning back now." She said coldly at him and stared with not a single emotion written in her face. "I am this." He shook his head and took another hit from his blunt.

"No... I think you can be better." He said to her and she frowned slightly at this, thinking about his words as she looked at him, gears working in her head, guilt appearing in the core of her chest. She blinked once, twice, and a decision was made in her head.

The next day, at the cafeteria, Nancy Wheeler joined the Hellfire Club table because Robin missed school and it was just for today. Eddie was very persistent into not letting outsiders in his table, but he cared for Nancy. She hadn't been doing okay ever since Jonathan left, and they hadn't visited eachother in so long.

"So, Wheeler, you single?" Gareth asked. Ever since he lost his virginity he couldn't stop flirting with every girl that stepped on his way. Eddie smacked him over his head to stop him from talking and Gareth almost slammed against the table from the force Eddie hit him with. "What!? It was an honest question!"

"No... I am not." Nancy said coldly and Mike rolled his eyes at his friends. His eyes looked up towards someone that was walking towards their table. The jocks and cheerleaders were having lunch at the field, so he didn't' understand what she was doing here.

"Wheeler." Y/N called out and everyone turned their heads at her. She was nervous, beyond words as she tried not to play with the envelope in her hands. She knows Nancy has been struggling with money for herself, and she knew that the Byers didn't have the means either.

"Me or her?" Mike called out and Y/N wanted to roll her eyes, but that would fuck up her determination. She handed the envelope to the eldest Wheeler. Nancy was confused to say the less and she grabbed the paper in her hands.

"What's this?" She asked and the cheerleader fidgeted slightly trying to find the right words.

"My apology. Non-returnable. It's a gift." She only said and then started walking towards the cafeteria doors as Nancy opened the envelope up, her eyes tearing up as she inspected the contents she pulled out. She looked back at the girl and then back at what was on her hands.

"What is it?" Mike asked and everyone was trying to look to see what she had given Nancy, and they were afraid it was another prank, but Nancy smiled softly and showed Mike.

"Tickets for us. To go to California." Everyone looked at Nancy with a baffled look on their faces, blinking at the sudden gesture. Mike then smiled widely, not caring who had given them the tickets, he was happy he was going to see his girlfriend and best friend after so long. Nancy laughed with joy as she handed Mike his ticket and everyone was chatting away as to why the bitch of the school had done something like that for the Wheelers. Eddie Munson's heart softened as he looked towards the cafeteria doors and saw Y/N giving one last look, with a faint smile on her lips and finally walking out. What was she thinking? He thought. She can't do this to him. She can't make him feel this way. She can't make him feel attracted to her. But she was, she was slowly pulling him in.

She can be better.
