Blood Atop Fresh Snow

Start from the beginning

Your heart hammered in your chest as you slid your fluffy hood over your head and slipped your night vision goggles on. You clicked off your flashlight, tucking it into a font pouch.

"Going dark," Ghost grumbled, as he resumed his typical hunched over position, gun tucked into the crook of his shoulder as he turned to face one of the bedroom windows.

He pulled out a smoke grenade from his pocket, the clip jostling as he did so. Soap immediately went to the open door of the bedroom, beckoning for you to follow.

You went, quickly maneuvering yourself out of the door, and next to the wall. Ghost followed you, and you stepped back to make some room.

"Time for a distraction," Soap chuckled.

Ghost nodded to him, as you crouched, tucked behind Ghost as he pulled the clip and threw the grenade into the room.

After a few minutes the grenade sounded throughout the house, as debris flew through the open door to the bedroom.

Immediately gunshots sounded throughout the air, piercing the walls around you.

Your heartbeat thrummed in your chest, as the windows to the living room were shot out, glass shattering on the floor as shells dropped to the ground.

"Fuckin' 'ell," Soap winced as he began returning fire.

You lifted your sniper up, focusing on where the shots were coming from.

Cold night air seeped into the house as snowflakes dropped all around you and onto the hardwood floors, melting upon impact.

You aimed through your scope as you steadied your shot and pressed down on the trigger. The button clicked, swiftly taking down one of the men.

"Enemy KIA," you whispered over the comms.

Frantic yelling of orders and the crunching of gravel and snow under the incoming forces feet, were all you needed to know that all three of you were in some serious trouble.

"Move," Ghost rumbled as he cleared the bedroom.

You followed in behind him, moving through the threshold of the doorway, Soap behind you, as the two of you fanned out, Ghost in the middle, you to the left, and Soap to the far right.

Bullets whizzed through, piercing the airs with shrieks as you stepped on debris created by the grenade.

Remnants of the room laid still, crunching as you padded over them.

Ghost elbowed the rest of a window, sending it crumbling down, as he stepped through. He motioned for the two of you to follow.

"Ladies first," Soap gestured for you to go. You nodded, giving him a slight glare, and followed Ghost through the window, Soap giving cover fire as the troop stormed the house.

Your nose flushed as you stepped outside, your breath fogging as you breathed. Once through the window, you crouched down, aiming as a few of the enemies dared to enter the bedroom.

Soap didn't hesitate, immediately stepping through the window, and resuming fire.

Several bodies dropped as the yelling continued, spilling into the cold, night air.

"Go!" Ghost yelled as he turned the corner of the house, clearing it before turning back to the two of you.

You and Soap kicked up into a sprint, trudging the fresh snow as you promptly made your way away from the cottage. Brisk air burning your lungs as you puffed, clutching your gun to your chest, narrowly avoiding several bullets.
