Chapter 48: The List *

He dropped down on top of you, carefully not to accidentally crush you. You smiled up at him, caressing his cheek, nails running gently over his skin.

"2 cities down, 8 more to go" you smirk up at him.

Steve chuckles down at you before pressing his lips to yours for a sweet kiss.

One of the things you and Steve had planned while in London, other than sightseeing, was to pay a very special person a visit.

"Hey Peg, how are you today?" Steve smiled as you and he walked in.

"Mr and Mrs Rogers! How lovely to see you" Peggy said with a playful smile.

"It's great to see you too Peggy, you're looking well," you tell her as you sit down.

"Oh shush you're being too kind, I'm a tired weak old lady, I was so disappointed I couldn't come to your wedding" Peggy sighs shaking her head.

"There is nothing weak about you at all Peg" Steve says shaking his head at her.

"I'm still sorry I couldn't come," Peggy tells you.

"It's okay, you were there in spirit, and we're here now" you smile putting your hand on top of hers.

She smiles over at you before shifting her gaze over to Steve.

"You've found yourself a good one here Steve," Peggy says.

Steve smiles looking over at you "yeah I really have" he says.

"Speaking of celebrating, there's a wedding present for you, on the dresser," Peggy says pointing over to the gift.

"Peggy you didn't have to," Steve says standing up and moving to grab the present.

"It would be rude not to" Peggy smiles as Steve sits down passing you the gift to unwrap.

As you do so Steve chuckles to himself when he sees a younger, skinnier picture of himself from his training days.

"How long have you had this?" Steve asks looking up at Peggy.

"A very, very long time now. It used to sit on my desk, but I thought its home was now with you" Peggy explains smiling over at you.

"You were very cute," you say smiling down at the picture.

"Am I not cute now?" Steve laughs arching a brow at all.

"Yes amongst over things," you say smiling over at him.

Steve smiles over at you before leaning over and kissing your cheek. When you look back over at Peggy you see her smiling at the two of you, tears in the corners of her eyes.

"Peg, what's wrong?" Steve asks sitting forward, concern clear on his face.

Peggy waves her hand at him "I'm just so happy for you, finally getting what you deserve after everything you've gone through, all your heartache" Peggy says grabbing his hand and squeezing it.

As she spoke Steve could feel himself getting emotional. A lump formed in his throat.

"That goes for you too, you've seen so much sorrow, losing your brother and mother, you both deserve each other so much," Peggy says looking over at you, Steve could see you smiling through the tears that were threatening to fall.

"Look at all of us" Peggy chuckles wiping away her tears, you and Steve doing the same.

For the rest of the afternoon, the three of you caught up over a pot of tea. You and Steve telling Peggy about the wedding and your visit to Dublin and Edinburgh.
