36. Sophomore year

Start from the beginning

She ripped herself from his grasp and he was staring at her with longing in his eyes. He wanted to kiss her, desperately, urgently, but the ruckus was louder each second it passed and he glared at the door. She chuckled slightly at his reaction as he looked at her with his brown eyes and a playful smile on his face. That's the friendly Munson, the one who didn't want to eat her alive.

"Which book is your favorite?" She rolled her eyes at him, the moment completely gone as she pushes past him to grab the door handle and open the door. "Oh, come on! It's just a question!" He follows her downstairs again and she walks back towards Robin and Steve, as if they just hadn't had the best and hottest make out session behind a bathroom door. Jeff walks over to him with his arms crossed and a smirk to his face.

"You think I'm stupid, don't you?" He asks Eddie and the long haired boy stares at him, waiting for his friend to continue. "The droplets of beer are still on her shoes." And Eddie's eyes widened, wondering how his friend is not top of his class. The guy is a fucking detective, he thought. He saw everyone heading out towards the garden to continue the party and Eddie wrapped his arm around his friend's shoulders, whispering to him.

"Tell Gareth about it, and I rip your ears off." He threatens Jeff, but he only laughs at Eddie, pulling away from him.

"Chill... I'm just glad you are giving it a shot, that's all." And Eddie notices the sincerity in his friend's voice, so he rubs his head forcefully with his hand, earning a laugh from Jeff as they follow the group outside, only to be struck by commotion. Their faces turn into frowns as they see a very angry Y/N facing Nancy Wheeler who was yelling something at her.

"Why do you hate him so much!? You were the one who did something to him!" She yelled at Y/N, the alcohol taking over her body. The latter girl bumped on Jonathan's shoulder as she walked out and accidentaly spilled his drink, but Nancy believed she did it on purpose.

"I gave him what he deserved Nancy, nothing more." Steve stepped between the two girls with his hands up, separating them.

"Okay, this is a welcoming party, no need to do any finger pointing here!" He tried to calm everything down but Y/N was way too angry to calm herself.

"You think he is Mr. Perfect, but all he is, and will ever be, is a stalking meddling cunt!" She yelled at her and Nancy's eyes burned with fury as she tried to jump on Y/N's neck. Jonathan stopped Nancy as he grabbed her by the waist, pulling her back and Nancy tried to rip herself off her boyfriend. Y/N didn't even flinch as Nancy tried to grab her, and she wasn't going to resort to violence in order to get her point across. She was hurt that Nancy did not let go of what she did to Jonathan years ago, and did not want to understand her position in the matter. She thought that after Monday's reunion with everyone, Nancy believed her as well, but it seems it was all fake.

"Let me go Jonathan!" She demanded to her boyfriend and the guy was still looking at Y/N. Nancy noticed his attention was not on her and stopped fighting as she kept staring at him. Y/N noticed Jonathan was going to speak to her, and her anger only grew. Everyone else was surrounding them and finally Jonathan spoke.

"Let me explain the reason." He talked to her and she shook her head at him, raising a hand up to shut him up.

"No, no reason can explain what you did." She coldly replied to him and he let go of Nancy to take a step forward towards Y/N. He licked his lips, nervousness going from the end of his feet to the top of his head.

"In Sophomore year... You and I became partners. Journalism, English class... You tried changing partners but Mr. Hennesy did not let us. The first two days, you were... Insufferable, annoying, a... a bitch! For fuck sake... I hated you, I wanted to kill you so many times." Everyone widened their eyes at the confession, including the girl that took part in the story. "Then, one day, you came over to my house and my mom invited you to stay over for dinner... You listened to my mother ramble about her passion for Christmas lights, and you listened to my little brother talk about his favorite board game." He was staring at her as she remembered the days vividly in her mind. She had found a friend in Jonathan, and she let her guard down without her noticing. Will fidgeted as he looked down to the floor as he remembered his middle school days, before his mother remarried to Jim. "You also... listened to Will cry, about all the names he was being called at his school." Everyone looked at eachother, pitying the poor boy that was still looking down at the floor, but then they noticed Y/N's eyes glisten slightly, trying to hold in the knot in her throat. Eddie grew worried for her but he had to let Jonathan finish in order for his doubts to be cleared up.
