Chapter 7: I'm No Hero

Start from the beginning

I felt her body weight shift meaning she was trying to pull her legs for an aspired kick at my groin. I released my foot causing her center to shift and making her roll to the left slightly as I stepped to her right. Ekko had gotten back up and managed to strike my face causing the darkness to dissipate, but it was enough time for Ekko to notice. Jinx got onto her knees while clutching her hand.

"I-is this because of me? Are you doing this just to hurt me? Do you really hate me that much?" Jinx asked, I shook my head at that, this wasn't hatred. This was more personal than just hatred.

"Wait, Y/n is the Shadow?" Ekko finally figured it out.

"Ding, ding, ding! Tell him what he's won!" I said in a game show host voice. "Why yes Carl, he's won an all-expense paid trip to an early grave," the only thing audible now was my laughter as they were both shaken by my more refined combat knowledge. I sat on the hood of a vehicle and watched them try to stand, both winded. There's some bad blood between them, but they're putting that aside to focus on me.

"Do you want to know the reason I'm doing this?"

"You're insane, that's enough of a reason. You're the one that turned her into this you know!"

Jinx looked like she wanted to smack him for that comment alone. Yet, she was also curious why I was so serious about this. After all, she understands me enough to know I'm only laughing like this when upset about something. "Well, let's see here, neither of you even tried to look for me... I was on my own for seven years!" I then pointed to Ekko. "And you! We used to be friends, but let's face it, those days have long since passed." I pulled a pin from one of Jinx's gadgets as I said this and then placed it on the hood behind me, they both looked at me with realization in their eyes. For the first time, they knew that I meant business. All of our battles, and this is the first time they saw me surrender to the darkness.

"As for you, Jinx, I have a mission of my own, it doesn't involve you."

My skin turned grey, my form became monstrous for just a moment. Shorter than it would have taken for them to notice. It caused the heat and force of the explosion to go around me. Jinx and Ekko were still breathing but badly injured. I walked over to Jinx, my form returned to normal as I knelt to her side and brushed the hair from her face.

"You're lucky. I could have killed you both if I hadn't taken most of the shrapnel. I do care about you two, deep down perhaps. But I still won't let you get in my way."

I stood up with my entire body bleeding from new holes as the metal was pushed out and the wounds began to close. I looked up to find the rising sun over the horizon and walked away before hearing Silco's men approaching through the debris. After this, I went to Vi and Caitlyn, but instead, I only found Vi who was watching Silco as he discovered Jinx.

At the same time, Caitlyn opened the box, revealing that there was never anything inside it. Yet, little did they know that not even Jinx knows where the orb is. "There we go, a nice blue orb. The key to everything I worked for."

In A Hidden Lab...

Silco rushed her to his scientist, the guy who makes Shimmer. Yet, this batch had an extra twist he'd been experimenting with, something even Silco hadn't known about. Silco fell asleep in his seat, while the doctor discussed the added boost he needed.

"And here we have Blood-X, whatever this came from isn't even fully human, more like a half-breed. Combined with some truly arcane elements. I'd love to find the specimen that donated this substance on the bridge."

In The Old Home...

I couldn't let Silco do this to anyone else. I decided to make a desperate call and grab as much attention as possible. Luckily, I know where he makes the Shimmer, the perks of investigating someone's entire operation from the inside out before doing business with them. Sure, Silco knows everything about me, but I know everything about him and his people, I'd say that I have the advantage in that regard.

One Hour Later...

I arrived at the plant, knocked out a guard, and disguised myself to blend in. I had made it into the main facility before Enforcers flooded the area, along with someone I recognized as a council member wielding a large hammer. I looked around before disappearing into the darkness and returned to my previous clothing, which I had hidden in a secret hiding place only I could access. One of the workers hit the alarm, activating the pods containing some of Singed's experiments.

I approached the scene ready for a fight, my veins pumping a black liquid through my body as the entity began pumping the physical manifestation of its power. To anyone else, it would have appeared that I took some variation of Shimmer. I know because a metallic fist came flying toward my face. There was a loud crack from the impact, but my feet were still planted on the ground. The transformation stopped at the moment of impact, the fact that I was still here seemed improbable. Yet, blood dripped from my cheek, it broke my skin. Only the left side of my face was changed, but the impact caused my arcane energy to retreat.

"Ow! Who did that?!"

"Y/n? Is that you?" Vi said, her metal fist on my face.

"Yeah it's me, do you mind removing your fist from my face now?"

She pulled her arm back, finding my hybrid form. I gave a slight wave to remove her from her stunned stare. I sighed, no one alive had ever seen me in this state except Silco. I looked over her shoulder and saw one of the Shimmer beasts, at least that's what I'm calling them, approaching from behind her.

I placed my arm on her shoulder using it as a steady surface before unleashing a blast of fire from my hand. She felt the heat through her jacket and saw sweat dripping from my face now as my breathing quickened from strain. I sat still for a few minutes of fighting, only stopping when the kid that started all of this was accidentally shot and fell to the bottom floor. Vi and that council member went to check on him. I stumbled over to watch their actions. Turns out the kid is still alive, but probably not much longer. He died almost immediately after regaining consciousness, not even getting the peace of going into his slumber.

I blundered my way down before eventually turning it into a walk and finally a run. All of the workers were looking down at the scene of the two people they could only assume were from Piltover who had interfered and killed an innocent boy.

"No. Not again. Not another child left screaming in the dark."
