It's Deeper Than you Think - 6

Start from the beginning

Tangerine gulped as he stared back into my sharp blue eye that sparkled like diamonds against the lights of the aisle. He'd never seen me look so intimidating, and yet, he liked it. He thought that it suited me in a way. If this is how I was in all of my jobs, he couldn't blame my victims for being so easily killed.

"No kind of situation like this will end well, make no mistake. You must keep your guard up at all times, no matter how professional you are."

I finished, letting out a sigh before my demeanor went back to normal. As if on cue, one of the boys phones suddenly rang.

"Is it you or me?" Tangerine asked, pointing to Lemon then back to himself.

After checking his pockets Lemon gasped.

"What's up?" I asked.

"That motherfucker took my phone!"

"That's not necessarily a bad thing." I said.

Tangerine put his finger to his mouth, telling me to shut it without using words.

"....Yeah?" He said, picking up the call.

"Haah. You're really getting on my arse here! I really don't feel comfortable bringing it out to a bunch of amateurs." He rolled his eyes, clenching his fist on the table.

He sat in silence for a good bit of time, I assumed to let his employer talk.

"I'll come out and indulge in a chat. That's it. I don't trust your little minions." He said, hanging up before his employer could fight back.

"Well. Now we're in some deep shit." He sighed, rubbing his temple.

"Hmm... I'd hand you over now, but you've been useful thus far, so I'll prolong your wait. I'm assuming you have no problem with that, Cherry?" He asked.

I found it odd that he didn't call me by some flirty nickname. He must've been more serious right now, not that calling someone by such a name sounds serious at all. Still, I liked the way my codename rolled off of his lips, even if it wasn't my real name.

"Tch. Real funny." I sighed.

I had forgotten that at the end of this I was gonna be his get away. And to think, I was starting to warm up to this guy. Don't know what more I'd expect from a European.

Lemon seemed to notice the tension, so he decided to speak up.

"So... do you got a plan?" He asked his brother, who smirked.

"Of course I have a plan."

I stood in the exit, waiting for Tangerine just in case something were to go wrong. The men waiting for him looked like a bunch of stereotypical thugs with baseball bats, leather coats, cigarettes and slicked back hair. As Tangerine walked out, he lit a cigarette and placed it in his mouth, stopping a couple yards away from the group as if he were afraid he'd catch their stench.

I couldn't help but peak out of the shinkansen's doorway, watching as Tangerine took the cigarette from his mouth, and tossed it over his shoulder without a care in the world. Everything about him looked perfect. The way his suit fit his body, how his hair was styled, the way he positioned himself.

"Eh? Thought the White Death's buddies were showin' up, not a bunch of delinquents from the 80s." He scoffed.

The man holding a cigarette to his mouth put it down and spit at the ground. Looking up at Tangerine with impatient, annoyed eyes that couldn't focus properly due to alcohol.

"Where's the case?" He asked in a scratchy tone.

"Tch. Did you really think I was dumb enough to just bring it out? It's safe inside with Lemon. Cool your tits." He smirked.

I admired that he spoke, as much as I didn't want to. He wasn't afraid to say what he wanted, and certainly didn't need to think about it.

"And the son?" He asked.

I visibly gulped. This was when things would get a little harder. It's not that I don't trust Lemon's abilities, but making a dead body look alive? That's not exactly easy.

"The cheeky bastard's right there, havin' a great fuckin' time, ain't he?" Tangerine said, pointing to the window where Lemon tried the best to make the body look animated as it waved out the window, its bloody eyes still covered by the glasses.

"Wave to your fuckin' fans, princess!" I heard Lemon say, making me chuckle to myself.

"Welp. The train's gonna be leavin' at any moment. I'll see ya arseholes later."

Tangerine backed towards the door and entered the train just as it began to depart as a couple of the men began to rush towards him. Thankfully, the door shut just in time to keep them out.

"Do you really think they believed that..?" I sighed.

"Doubt it, but it'll get us by for a while." He said with a lopsided smile.

"Aah. This is getting tiring." I yawned, stretching my arms above my head as I walked towards our booth.

He gave me a pat on the back without saying anything, making my face heat up as I sunk down into myself. I assume he caught on, because I could've sworn I heard him chuckle.

"Bastard..." I sighed.
