"The site... I forgot... where it was." Her voice was timid and meek as her hands tightened around the straps of her pristine black bookbag.
Killua was dumbfounded at her behavior.
Kamine never forgets anything! Not even the time his pant leg got caught while trying to assassinate someone and pulled his pants down, tripping him as the victim got away. Actually, no- that experience was mortifying, and not in a good way. No one would forget that, not even his pig of a brother, Milluki.
But nevertheless, she never forgets anything else anyways.
"How did you know where it was, to begin with?" He questioned rolling his eyes as she failed to respond. "Kamine..." He growled, growing impatient at her behavior.
"I don't know." She frowned wincing as he sighed loudly.
"Well, that's just great." He tried to act annoyed but couldn't help the giddy grin that appeared on his face. That means he would be able to find the exam site on his own after all.
"So I did a little research on my own and found out there might be a hint on the Hunter exam somewhere in Zaban city!" Killua grinned, proud of his own deductions as the girl just nodded, finally gathering the courage to meet his eyes again. "So our next stop is Zaban city!"
The girl just nodded following along as the boy happily skipped off. Unbeknownst to him, a small glimpse of a smile worked its way onto her face.
She did make the right decision after all.

"I found it!" The boy's face broke into a large grin as he eagerly opened the door to the ramen place. It really wasn't that hard to find it after beating-... or encouraging other applicants to tell him what they knew about the exam site. He hadn't had a real challenge since the time his Dad left him at Heavens Arena for two years to clear up to floor 200 by himself. He was growing restless with excitement.
"Two steak combos, please! You know, the one that will make you see the light." He called to the chef smugly as the chef nearly glanced back at him with a serious expression.
"How would you like that cooked?" The chef questioned as Killua faltered. 'Cooked?' did he get the password wrong? Did the chef actually think he wanted a steak combo in this situation?
He bit his lip as the girl beside him eyed him worriedly. Her mouth opened as she glanced at the chef. Pausing for a moment, she failed to speak before shuffling through her bag to pull out a notebook.
She scribbled something down on the page before handing it to the chef. The chef glanced at the note for only a moment before burning it in the fire, nodding as he gestured the two to the back room. "You may wait in here." He instructed before shutting the door.
Realization struck Killua as his anger began to build up. He couldn't believe he actually believed her for a moment there.
Killua simply scoffed before plopping down in one of the red seats. He was a fool to think she would've actually forgotten, but she's never lied to him before— at least not to his knowledge.
"Why did you lie to me Kamine?" The boy rested his chin on his hand in annoyance as he glared at the girl. "You never forgot how to get to the exam site, why did you say you didn't remember?"
The girl looked away.
An unpleasant anger bubbled in his stomach as he resisted the urge to scream at the girl. He didn't understand why he was so upset, they found the exam site so why did it matter that she refused to help him?
But at the same time, he couldn't swallow down the tinge of hurt that settled in his stomach as he realized Kamine, the one person he trusted to always be faithfully devoted to him, lied directly to his face. His nails left scratches on the table as he glared daggers at the girl.
"I thought that..." She paused, her hands fiddling with the straps on her bag as she opted for the notebook instead. The girl furiously wrote as she scribbled, again and again, unable to find the right words.
'I was under the impression you wanted to find the exam site yourself.' She wrote under dozens of black scribbles. He frowned at the words, a sick feeling of guilt and betrayal clawing up to his throat as he fought back the urge to cry.
Instead, he replaced the feeling with anger, hastily ripping the notebook from her hands as he ripped it to pieces. He huffed, asphyxiated, as he watched the scraps of paper float to the ground. He glared at the girl shocked to see the female blanched with fear.
"Oh... shit." He cussed at himself as his fingers ran aggressively through his own hair in regret. He took a deep breath, "I'm sorry Kamine, I didn't mean to scare you." He frowned, eyeing the blue and white pattern of his sneakers as he began to feel queasy with guilt.
It had been so long since Kamine had used the notebook to communicate with him that he had forgotten what her handwriting looked like. "You can say whatever you want to me. I promise I won't judge or get mad at you." Memories of his younger self promising the female flowed through his head as he winced, "So don't use that notebook anymore when talking to me, 'kay?" Her dainty, unused voice responded with a soft hum as she nodded.
Ever since Alluka had been put in solitary confinement, and Canary was punished for talking to him, Kamine had been the closest person to a friend he had. He gained comfort in knowing that he could always trust her to be there for him and vice versa.
Well, he sure screwed that up, "Great going Killua." He jabbed at himself as he let out a weak chuckle.
"I'm sorry young master. Please forgive my impudence." Her voice came out shaky and robotic as he heard shifting before him, shocked when the female had lowered herself to the floor for a deep bow refusing to lift her head towards him.
"N-No Kamine please get up." He pleaded growing distressed as he grabbed the girl, gently lifting her up, "Please don't apologize. I'm sorry I yelled at you... and ripped up your notebook."
He placed an uneasy hand on her head as he signed. "I know you only lied to suit my interests, I'm sorry I got mad at you. But please don't lie to me like that again." He frowned at his own words as his saddened sapphire eyes peered into hers, "And use your voice when you talk to me... not the notebook." He frowned his thumb drawing circles on her forehead as he continued.
"I like it when you talk to me." He admitted with a small smile as she just stared at him incredulously.
"Okay... I like when you talk to me too, young master." She hesitantly replied as a tinge of heat made its way onto the back of his neck as he looked away.
He paused.
"Y-Yeah... A-and d-don't call me young master too. It sounds weird." Killua frowned, growing embarrassed at the turn the conversation was beginning to take.
Her head tilted cutely as she looked at him, "What would you like me to call you then?"
"Call me Killua."
"Okay... Killua."
