"Ah. I was rather worried you were going to say that." The Doctor looked over the chart and the woman once more. "Doctor, the security of the entire planet is at stake. Can we rely upon you?"
"Of course." She nodded.
"If you follow me to my office, I can give you whatever equipment you may need to help you." C then lead the way down the corridor until we reached his office. At the sound of using spy equipment I saw Ryan and Graham's faces light up. There were a couple of people in suits that brought in a few sealed boxes. They opened them up and walked outside. "Now then, aesthetic darts, laser shoe gun, infrared ID duplicator, calendar hacker, lock breakers, rocket launcher cuff links, retinal ID decoder and, er, tongue-immobiliser chewing gum." He listed off pointing to each piece of equipment. I rose my eyebrow and I knew I could count on one hand the amount of it that was actually practical. Ryan and Graham on the other hand were like children on Christmas. They couldn't wait to get their hands on their new toys to play with them. "How much more do you want?"
"Yeah, yeah, it's great." Ryan said and I rolled my eyes. "Keep 'em coming, C."
"Yeah, bring on the bling." Graham asked.
"They are not toys!" C said sternly, but I knew otherwise.
"Yeah, they're not toys, Graham." Ryan whispered back sternly.
"No, they're not, Ryan, and if you say otherwise." He got up from his seat holding up one of the shoes from the box. "I will shoot you with my laser shoe." I smiled as did Ryan before he took it and put it back in the box.
"They don't need anymore." I said to C. "Now, shall we get on with why we are here?" I asked the boys pointedly.
"Right, sorry." Ryan said and I smirked before turning to see the Doctor and Yaz by C's desk.
"All the assassinated agents were investigating leads relating to this man." C handed Yaz a file as I stood next to the Doctor.
"Daniel Barton." She began reading. "Born in Bromdgrove. Now lives just north of San Francisco. He's the founder of VOR."
"The search engine?" Ryan asked.
"Web apps, social, global mapping, advertising, scientific and medical research, robotics, data polling, human analytics..." she continued to list on and after some of the things Yaz read, I shared a look with the Doctor.
"Right now, VOR is more powerful than most nations." C said pointing to the file in Yaz's hands. "Daniel Barton is the man who built it all up from the ground."
"We are gonna need your best man on this." The Doctor said and I nodded in agreement. "What do you call him? Horizon-watcher?"
"Oh." C said.
"Exactly!" The Doctor exclaimed excitedly.
"Ah, well, he, um... hmm!" He paused and I looked at him skeptically. "He left. I sacked him."
"The only person with an open mind about all this and you let him go?" The Doctor asked and I could here the irritation in her voice.
"MI6 has never countenanced the possibility of extra-terrestrial life." Was C's response.
"Well, you should talk to your mates at GCHQ!" The Doctor said sarcastically.
"Happy new year." I said sarcastically, but the Doctor was in a mood again that wouldn't shake easily it appears.
"The country has other organizations that deal with all that!" He protested. "UNIT."
"Shut down." I said shaking my head.
