Chapter 37 - Dar'yaim II

Start from the beginning

"Got it," and as an answer the door hissed open to my left. Anakin and Rex took point inside, leaving Echo, Fives and Ahsoka on the outside to stand watch. I hopped down the few steps inside after they gave me the clear signal. Surprisingly there was no light inside, only the blue illumination from Anakin's lightsaber. Rex switched on his helmet light and sweeped it inside. Along the far wall, by the left corner, were three clone officers and what must be Master Piell's admiral, Tarkin. The three clone officers were gagged with a simple rag tied around their heads, but the admiral wasn't. I got down next to the clones and started removing the fabric so they could speak.

"Thank you sir," one of them with a cut on his chin said as I threw the fabric to the side and helped him up.

"Of course, here let me get the restraints–"

"Oh by all means, do take your time. I'm certainly in no rush to get out of here," the gnarly voice with a heavy Coruscanti accent interrupted from behind me. I turned my head to look at the admiral who still sat on the floor and gazed the opposite way, mocking a nonchalant mood. Scoffing at the rather rude interruption I went back to helping the clone in front of me.

"I can tell since you're still on the floor, admiral. I do say, it looks very comfortable. Perhaps you would like to stay here?" He was not happy with the retort. Even though the clone officers were battling exhaustion, they cracked a small smile at the comment and the one I was helping cleared his throat to not laugh.

"I– excuse me? That is not at all what I mean!" the admiral's voice had gone higher into more of a shrill as his eyes burned marks into my back.

"Oh? Are you admiral's not taught in school to be clear in your instructions? Or did you simply choose to ignore that part of class?" I couldn't help messing with him. He seemed to be the type that bullied others into submission and abused his seat of power to get what he wanted. And the upper class Coruscant accent told me all about his childhood with a silver spoon shoved right up his ass–

"Stop it. Both of you. We don't have time for this if we are to get out of here. Rex, help the admiral. (Y/N), just get the others ready to move," Anakin was also not happy about this. It actually surprised me, he is one who's not the first to let others abuse their power over others. So for him to let this slide so easily was a little unsettling. But he was right in the fact that we had to get a move on. Our window of escape was closing. Barely two minutes later and we were out of the dark cell and back in a collected group, moving west inside the citadel. Our plan was to take a parallel route against the other group on the east wing to the landing platform right outside. That way we stayed separate should one of the groups be caught, only half the information for the Nexus route would be lost. We met three squads of patrolling droids on our way but they were quickly handled. Along with finishing off the second squad, everyone agreed that they would definitely know that we were here now. Strangely, we hadn't encountered more of the new droids, like the one I had taken down before. Nor had the alarm sounded. Why hasn't the alarm gone off? Is there only one new prototype of droid? Are we missing something? So many questions were running through my head and I could tell that everyone else was thinking the same thing, except for Tarkin of course. He trodden on with his head held high as if he was an exclusively trained animal on show. Not a single care in the world, he just expected us to act like his guard dogs if some droids showed up. We were expendable. My gut told me that he was arrogant, ruthless and dangerous. If there is one thing I know for certain, it's that something is very wrong. It shouldn't be this easy. But trying to figure out what was wrong was impossible. The group suddenly stopped as Anakin and Ahsoka, who were leading, looked around. We were in an intersection with hallways going off both left and right. The plan was to continue to the left, but we didn't move. Everyone was dead silent, Anakin and Ahsoka's head were slowly shifting back and forth. They were listening for something, or waiting.
