Chapter 37 - Dar'yaim II

I was about to defend my actions when he continued.

"However, I do share your concern about Captain Rex. He was very much alive when that, thing, took him." the gears in his head were spinning to try and work out how we would do this. We had already fallen behind schedule in our escape plan and we still had a ways to go. Splitting up wasn't an attractive idea either since we had two clone officers and an –in my opinion– useless admiral that needed protection. We didn't have many to spare either that could go after Rex. But I had already decided, I was going after him, whether I walked out of this mission alive or not. I am not leaving him.

"Like I said Anakin, I'll go after Rex and you guys continue as planned. We'll figure it out. We always do." I placed a reassuring hand on his arm to further reinforce my point. Time was running out and I needed to leave now to try and catch up with the fucking droid if I wanted to see Rex alive.

"I'll go with you," Echo stepped up to us, blaster ready to show his commitment.

"Me too," Fives joined next to him, "Captain Rex saved us on the Rishi outpost, now it's our turn to repay the favour."

"Both of you can't go," Anakin protested. They both knew it too, one of them would need to stay with the rest even if they didn't want to. Ani sighed before making his decision, "Echo, you go with (Y/N) as you were the first to step up. Fives, you stay with us. Meet us at the landing platform and we'll all get out of here".

"Sir, yes sir!" Echo and Fives affirmed before turning to each other and grabbing onto each other's forearms, like a handshake but holding the arm instead. They said something that I didn't hear as Anakin brought my attention back to him again.

"I want you to be reasonable (Y/N), it's not going to be easy getting him out of here," his blue eyes said the rest of what he didn't dare say out loud.

"I know, that's why I want you to make sure everyone gets home in time for dinner. Don't wait up for me," I gave him a pat on the shoulder before calling to Echo that we had to go.

And so, (Y/N) and Echo both jogged off, leaving the rest with Anakin who was left feeling like a small kid again; being left behind by Qui-Gon Jinn. Not knowing that he would never see him alive again. Anakin hoped with all his heart that it wouldn't happen again, for the ever growing shadow within him was growing stronger by every loss he faced. For someone so young, he had lost so many.

Was it because of himself?

Or was it because of the way a Jedi had to live their life?

Either way, control was not as clear as it might have been in a podrace. It was now muddled and he didn't know how to navigate it anymore. Gritting his teeth, the young man urged the group on to continue. Going the opposite way as (Y/N) and Echo. Hoping that he would see them again.

Merry Christmas everyone!

As of writing this very update (that has been long awaited, thank you for your patience) it is 00:06 on christmas morning. In Sweden, where I live, we celebrate the holiday on the 24th of December, in case some of you might not be familiar with it and is wondering why I refer to today as christmas :)

I wish every single one of you out there reading this, an amazing holiday where you can get a break from school or work and take some time for yourself and family to just appreciate the loved ones around you.
