You saw Aguni emerge from the 7th floor, expression turning from neutral to semi-repulsed in less than a second. You guessed Chishiya was waving, the thought brought a smile to your lips. Aguni turned away and stalked off, you heard Chishiya comment above you.
"What? That's nasty." A beat of silence. "Let's see...everyone looks like they're about to die, as usual."
You stifled your laughter.
'The game will now commence.'
You snapped back to attention, tense silence reigned as everyone waited with bated breath for the tagger to appear. Then the elevator on your floor opened, revealing an individual wearing a horse mask. It seems you've sorely miscalculated.
"Aw shit fuck." You ducked, praying they haven't seen you.
The tagger's boots clomped threateningly on the floor, almost quiet compared to the beating of your heart and blood rushing through your ears. You felt a bit light headed, to be honest.
You held your breath, your entire body involuntarily quivering. Getting gunned to death was not on your bucket list.
The steps paused, and you almost screamed. They were right in front of you, down the hall. One look and a multitude of bullets will be embedded into your body. You shook like a leaf, willing your heartbeat to quiet down as you were fully convinced they would hear it and kill you in a matter of seconds.
They were currently looking away from you, staring further down the hall. You stared unblinkingly, wanting to look away but unable to avert your eyes.
Then, thankfully, the tagger turned, trekked further down the hall and took a turn down the stairs. The relief you felt was instantaneous, flooding your senses as you slumped. You can't believe you didn't take into account which floor the tagger would emerge in.
"That was a load of horseshit." You paused, before snickering to yourself, "literally."
"Horrific joke, I cringed."
You startled, realising the surprisingly fluent English originated from someone directly above you.
"My apologies, almost dying affected my humour."
A hum. "Happens to the best of us."
You laughed, interrupted by gunfire and screams. You gathered the courage to stand on your wobbly legs, and peeked over the railing. The tagger was on the third floor, reloading their gun while a young girl on the floor sobbed and futilely threw her shoe at them. A couple more shots and she slumped in a pool of her own blood. You felt sick, but it wasn't unbearable. You averted your gaze, opting to stare at the tagger who was now walking dutifully to the staircase.
You let out a breath you didn't know you were holding, looking at everything but the dead bodies laid strewn across the hallway. To distract yourself, you decided to keep talking to the companion above you.
"What's your name?"
"Chishiya."
A beat of silence.
"Not gonna ask for mine?"
"That would imply that I care about what your name is."
Lil' shit.
"It's Y/n, by the way."
You didn't get to hear his reply as aggressive gunshots fired rapidly at a door you knew all too well. Surprisingly, you had actually remembered where the safe zone was, apartment number 406. You just didn't want to be near the door when...that happened.
