Chapter 61: Not Inadequate*

Start from the beginning

"Midgard, such a confusing place" Volstagg sighs moving to get some more alcohol.

"So any more great battles since last year?" Hogun asks you.

"Battles? yes, great? that's up for debate" you sigh shrugging your shoulders.

"Well as long as you won them" Fandral points out.

"Of course I did, haven't lost one yet and I don't plan to" you smirk.

You and Steve stayed at the feast for a couple of hours catching up with your friends. Enjoying the food and Asgardian ale. You knew this wasn't either of your scenes, so you decided to dip out. Walking over to where Steve was sitting wrapping your arms around his shoulders and kissing his cheek.

"Let's go on an adventure Captain" you whisper in his ear.

He looks over his shoulder at you before quickly finishing his beer. You smile taking his hand and leading him out of the great hall.

You lead him outside into the gardens of the palace. Bright flowers in bloom fill the air with floral scents. The hedges were trimmed into intricate shapes, some towering so high they almost formed a maze.

"You really did lead a fairy tale life here," Steve says as he looks around.

"I guess, I never really had someone to share it with though" you admit shrugging his shoulders.

"Did you not have friends here?" Steve asks.

"Yeah, but not for long. I grew up far faster than the other kids, and Thor and everyone else all looked the same as they do now, it wasn't until I was an adult that I had friends that lasted" you explain "and even then they were still thousands of years older than me"

"Sounds lonely," Steve says as he came to a stop turning to face you.

"It was at times, but I always had my brothers, they never seemed to care that I was so young," you tell him turning to face him.

"So I'm glad I get to share this part of my life with you" you smile taking and squeezing his hand.

"Well is there anything that you never got to do that you want to?" Steve asks.

"Oh, I don't know," you say trying to think.

"It can be anything, anything at all, even if it's cheesy and cliche" Steve smiles making you arch a brow.

"Cheesy and cliche did you say?" You smirk.

"Yep so what are you thinking?" Steve smiles tilting his head slightly.

"I have an idea... but you'll have to catch me first," you say pushing him into the bush behind him and darting off.

You heard Steve curse as he pushed himself back out of the bush. The sound of him running after you soon followed. Steve could easily catch up with you, he was a lot faster, but you had the advantage that you grew up here. You knew every nook and cranny, which hedges to jump over, which corners to take. You were able to go at full speed while Steve couldn't because he had to try and anticipate what was coming.

You laughed as you heard Steve stumbled and crash behind you. Apologising whenever he bumped into someone. At one point he thought he'd been able to corner you, but you just used your powers to create a hole in the hedge slipping through and sealing the hole back up.

"Oh come on! That's not fair" you heard Steve laugh as he complained.

"Who said anything about being fair?" You call back "put those super soldier skills to use"

"It's your funeral princess," Steve says and suddenly he was vaulting the hedge.

You let out a scream of surprise as you turned and ran. His fingers just touched the edge of your dress as it slipped through. You darted back inside the palace and started running through the corridors. People would look at you shocked as the two of you ran past them laughing as you went.
