"Vedansh is my son. Mine and Meera's. Meera had been already pregnant before she got married to your son, with my child!" Ved screamed out.
Before he could utter another word, I punched his face, hard. I was never a man of violence but not now, not when he came out of nowhere, storming into our lives. I was happy after a long time. I couldn't let him steal away my happiness.
"Arunaditya! You're going to leave him and answer my damn questions at this instance!" I heard my father's voice boom. I left his collar and did as I was asked, while I still panted heavily. Raged or unraged, I wasn't young.
"Have you been lying all of us about Vedansh's identity?" He asked me. I shook my head in negative. "I am his father. He's my son. Blood or no blood, I love him." I uttered looking into their eyes.
"I can't accept him not sharing the Rajputana blood!" He spelled out loud.
Before I could reply him, I heard a shrill scream. Looking at my right, I found my wife screaming in agony as she clutched her stomach tight. Her white pants were soaked in blood as she seemed to loose her consciousness.
"Sanskriti!" I screamed out and hold her by her waist. I tapped on her cheeks to keep her awake. "Baby! Keep your eyes open!" I kept screaming.
"Adi.. Ved-Vedansh! Ansh! I wan-want my baby back!" She screamed before passing out. I hd her in my arms as Abhiraaj jogged towards the driver's seat.
"Bhai." Abhiraaj called me out of my thoughts. He forwarded a can of cold coffee towards me as he took a seat beside me.
"Is bhabhi okay?" He asked me softly. I shook my head.
"She's fine. They'll shift her into the general ward in a few hours." I told him.
"What's bothering you then? Vedansh?" He asked me as he looked at me for answers. His black eyes were curious as his nerdy appearance make him look like a naive child. However, he was far from it. He was alot mature than all of us together.
I remember how he had been kidnapped by one of our business rivals when he was merely thirteen, rather than being depressed and traumatised, he helped us cope up with the fact he was safe, sound and home.
"I-I lost both of my children today." Was all that I could mutter before I broke into a crying mess.
"I lost the child I didn't knew existed in my wife's womb as my son is God knows where and in what condition." I cried out.
"Bhabhi was pregnant?" He asked. I nodded my head dejectedly.
"This is going to be really hard." I heard him whisper softly as he hugged me tightly.
"You can meet your wife now." The head nurse informed as I was on my feet. "She is awake. However, her language my slur due to the anesthesia given." She informed. I nodded and entered the alloted room.
Pushing the door slowly, I found Sanskriti looking at the wall blankly. Her face was drained off very natural glow, he cheeks lacked the crimson blush, her eyes had lost their twinkle as ber lips were no more plumpy, they were dry and chapped due to dehydration.
The opening and closing of door seemed to break her out of her reverie. She looked at me with expectant eyes.
I took a seat beside her on the hospital bed as I clutched her cold hands into my warm ones.
"How are you feeling?" I asked her. "I am fine." She whispered out. "What happened?" She asked me. I knew it was in context of her surrounding- the hospital.
"We lost our baby." I whispered out dejectedly. I watched as her eyes brimmed with tears as her lips opened and closed, not being able to voice out her thoughts. I wanted to hug her but I couldn't. I was afraid of hurting her physically. So I did what I could, I clutched tighter at her hand.
"Ved-Vedansh?" She finally whispered out. My heart clenched at her disparity. When I said our baby, her mind automatically drifted to Vedansh. He is our son. No matter what Ved or Mom or Dad said, no matter how many people questioned about him not sharing the same blood as ours, he was and will always remain our child.
I shook my head in negative as I watched her sigh in relief.
"You were pregnant. We had a miscarriage." I clarified. She took a deep breath and nodded. She just needed time to digest the fact but I knew she was strong enough to hold herself together.
"I am sorry. I didn't even know I was pregnant." She whispered out. Even in a critical situation like today's, she kept the fact in her mind that the child was as much mine as was hers. She didn't go maniac about loosing her child or become balistic and put the blame on me. She understood as much as she lost the foetus, I did too. It was her first time conceiving, mine was too.
"It's not our fault." I voiced out. She nodded as she opened her arms for me to take some support. As my head landed on her soft blossoms, I sighed as a tear slipped out of my eyes. The hospital gown was soft, so was Sanskriti's kisses on my hair.
I knew by her being on my side, I'll make everything right.
