"Bob and Abigail sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G"
"What is that?" Bob asked, glancing at her phone.
"Rooster, singing," She said simply.
"Phoenix was spying for Fanboy, who's now telling Rooster, who's now dancing," She explained.
"I work with children," she realised.
"Hey!" Bob called,"you pouted when I won you in Connect 4" Abigail countered.
"1 more turn! 1 more turn, and I'd have gotten it. " He shot back, making her giggle.
"I missed this," he smiled. "I missed you,"
"You never lost me, Bob," She told him.
"But I came close, and I swear I won't ever lose you, for real."
"Then you're stuck with me till you die, Floyd," she announced.
"Hopefully, that's a very, very long time,"
Abigail smiled as Bob pulled into the restaurant. "If you open that door, I will put child locks on my car." He threatened.
"Hands are up, Hands are up, officer."
Bob laughed, leaving the car opening the door for Abigail, holding his hand out to help her out.
Bob opened the restaurant door as well, letting Abigail enter before him.
The two were seated in a small booth near the back.
"So tell me about your family?" Abigail questioned.
"Hm?" Bob hummed, looking up from his menu.
"You never really talk about them, just say you were raised with a southern manner," she said.
"I mean, to be honest, there's nothing particularly extraordinary, no long line of Navy men or anything, just me, my ma, my dad, and my two sisters," he said.
"I guessed you had sibling, didn't know what, though."
"2 sisters, one older, one younger, May she's my older sister, she lives in Wyoming still, she's a kindergarten teacher, she's got 2 kids, Ollie and Kara, She's married going on 5 years now, my younger sister Taylor is in college, she's studying to be a vet, she's studying in California, I use to be stationed near her"
"That's sweet." Abigail smiled. "What about your parents?" She asked. "Oh their cattle ranchers, my ma's family ranch, I think it's 4th generation now, " He told her.
"You grew up on a ranch?" She asked.
"Yeah, didn't you?" Bob asked.
"Yeah, cattle as well, actually," she smiled.
"Was it meat or. . ."
"Selling them off to farmers, you?" Abigail answered.
"Milk and selling them, we used to live near bull ranchers."
Abigail grimaced slightly "Yeah" Bob laughed. "Second generation, commercial,"
"I'm so glad we didn't have that,"
The two swapped stories from growing up until they were finished with their food.
Abigail picked her clutch up. "You think I'm letting you pay for your apology dinner, no way."
"Let me pay my half," she argued. "Nope, you pay for nothing," he assured.
"Bob -"
"Nope," Bob said, waving the waitress over, handing her his card for them to pay.
"It's a short walk to the ice cream parlor," she said. "Can you walk in those death traps?" Bob asked."Of course I can, " she answered.
"You don't talk much about your old team," Bob said as they sat down, waiting for their ice creams.
"There's not much to tell really. It's like any Navy base, a bunch of adult kids who were complete idiots," she chuckled.
"I remember once, it was Valentine's Day, and they decided to flood my office with heart balloons." she smiled, "Like Mav with the tinsel."
"Yeah, but less malicious," Abigail chuckled.
"So all things considered, we're your favourite team," Bob joked.
"Oh sure you are," she said sarcastically.
The server came over with their ice creams, chocolate for Bob, and cookie dough for Abigail, but then a milkshake was set down with two straws.
"Oh, we didn't order that," Abigail said. "It's a special for couples," the server answered with a smile, leaving before either could argue.
"Free milkshake, I guess." Bob shrugged.
The two ate mostly quiet, swapping the drink between them.
Bob drove them back, the radio quietly playing to fill the quiet.
"Thanks for tonight," Abigail smiled, hugging Bob. "Thanks for forgiving me," he agreed.
"Goodnight Bob." she smiled.
"Goodnight Abigail."
