It was Liam's turn to interrupt, "You got a better idea?"

"Yeah. It's called "run like hell." Peter introduced, "So, leave in five?"

Sighing, Malia approached her father, "You promised you'd help us. We still need to find the rift."

"I didn't promise I'd help you commit suicide."

"If you can't help, we can find it ourselves," Scott shrugged.

"Scott, I admit that you have a flair for beating the odds, but this, you don't walk away from— you run."

And just like that, Peter walked out. Amelie didn't miss the heartbroken expression on Malia's face. Over and over again did he disappoint his daughter. Amelie held Malia's hand comfortingly, making her turn to her with a shrug. She was used to it.

Amelie, Malia, Scott and Lydia all walked into the Beacon Hills preserve. Dried up leaves and branches crunched under the pressure of their steps as they tried to spread around the area Peter was found burnt to a crisp.

"When you were here before," Scott called out to Malia as he walked around, "how long until the Ghost Riders showed up?"

It was quiet for a moment before Malia replied, "A couple minutes."

"That's reassuring."

"What's a rift supposed to even look like?" Amelie asked no one in particular.

"If it's a tear in the fabric of our world, theoretically, it could look like anything from a microscopic black hole to a free-floating Einstein-Rosen bridge," Lydia replied.

"Okay, then," Amelie pursed her lips as she kept looking around. She walked up to the shape of Peter's burnt body on the ground, how the leaves under her him were now ashes and the smell of fire stung her nose. She could hear Lydia walk up to her as Amelie looked up at the cloudy sky, "I really hope it's not up there."

With that, the four teens split up. Amelie wasn't sure what to look for. She just hoped she'd stumble upon it or walk right into like those action movies where the solution is right in front of their eyes. She was growing tired when Scott yelled out, "Hey, look at this."

They all gathered around some large pipe with rusted gates. It was large enough for them to go into it, which made Amelie realize, "The rift's not above us..."

"It's below."

🥰

"I can't see a thing."

The four teenagers walked through one of the tunnels as they approached a junction. "It's got to be down here somewhere," Scott said, his voice echoing.

While Lydia and Scott took a left, Amelie and Malia took a right, which they regretted immediately. They hit a hard surface and flew back onto the ground. Amelie groaned loudly at the impact, "My ass!"

"Found it!"

As Scott helped her up, they stared at the clear green surface floating above the ground in awe. Lydia stepped in front of them mumbling, "It's remarkably similar."

"To what?" Malia asked, her hand edging closer and closer to the rift, her fingertips glowing at the touch.

"To the Einstein-Rosen bridge," Lydia shrugged.

Now, they had to figure out a way to pass without being turning into burnt toast. Malia suddenly picked up a steel pipe that was thrown on the grown and began pushing it into the rift, only for it to melt and fall to the ground.
