Hunter x Survivor Reader

Start from the beginning

I felt my heart flutter when I saw the Hunter straddling her, clawing her to bits. She fought back, but it was useless due to the injuries I put in her. Then, eventually, I couldn't hear her scream anymore. She was dead.

"Y/N, hold on! Once we kill the horde, we'll help you!" Nick shouted, blasting through rounds to get the zombies off of him.

I wasn't even focused on that, not the horde, not my wounds, not anything. The Hunter whipped his head around at me, letting me get a good view of his grayish skin, his nasty snarl, and the dried blood stained below his lips.

He suddenly pounced on me, but didn't hurt me. He grabbed me by the underarms and dragged me all the way to the gazebo, laying me on the hard floor of it. Admittedly, my first thought was that he was going to devour me all by himself. But that was not the case.

He unraveled the dirty bandages that were on his arms and thighs, revealing gnarly and presumably painful boils. Then, he began to wrap me in those bandages, covering my fresh wounds. I could tell he was trying to be gentle, even though his movements were erratic and ragged. I heard his low growl, but it wasn't threatening. It just sounded as though it was his only way of communicating.

"Y/N?! Y/N!" Rochelle called out, hurrying to the gazebo while the others followed behind her. It seemed that all of the horde was killed, and their next mission was to save me. The Hunter whipped its head around to them, tensing up as he felt threatened.

"Shoot it! It's mauling her!" she shouted, the entire team aiming their guns directly at him.

"NO!" I yelled, quickly toppling over him and covering him to prevent them from hurting him.

"Y/N, get out of the damn way!" Coach said.

"Wait a minute..." Nick said lowly. The Hunter got out of my shelter and crouched, holding his arm out in front of me as if to protect me.

"What in the hell?" Ellis said.

Then, it wrapped its arms around me tightly, hugging me. He continued to stare at my team, still threatening to harm them. I don't know why, but I felt myself blush. He was rather cold to the touch, but I could still feel some sort of warm energy emit from him. It was... a loving sort of energy.

"Well ain't that something!" Ellis said with a surprised smile. "That bastard likes her!"

"That's just great. Let's bring the little guy to the safe room, better yet, let's bring him across the bridge and take him for a ride! Does anyone here know where to get a car seat?" Nick said sarcastically. The Hunter growled loudly at him in response. Nick snarled and rolled his eyes.

"Oh, come on, Nick. He's kinda cute, and he doesn't look like he wants to hurt us," Ellis said.

"It's a zombie, Ellis."

"I'm gonna have to agree with Nick on this one, Y/N. This is very dangerous," Coach said.

"But he saved me from the Witch! And he wrapped me in his bandages!" I said, standing up.

"You can't be serious!" Nick said, clearly annoyed.

The Hunter latched onto my leg, looking up at me with pleading eyes. My heart fluttered again and my stomach churned. I gave the same look to Nick and Coach, begging them to let me take him. After a moment, they both gave in.

"Damn it, fine! Just... stop looking at me like that," Nick said, turning his face away. I gave him a large smile, then bent down and hugged the Hunter. He hugged me back, his strength still shocking me and taking the breath out of my lungs.

We headed to the safe room, the Hunter following very closely to me, almost on my leg. We shut the large metal door behind us and locked it, then equipped ourselves with necessities. Before we went anywhere, we decided to sit down and take a break. Everyone rightfully stared at the Hunter, cautious of every move he made. But there was no need. All he did was cling to my side and check on my wounds with a constant growl.

"Let me see your scratches, Y/N," Nick said, holding a first-aid kit and reaching to grab a bandaged scratch on my arm. The Hunter then let out a loud growl, verging a shriek, and made Nick back away from me.

"Jeez, relax. I won't touch your precious Y/N," Nick scoffed, going back to his seating on the other side of the room. He wrapped his arms around me again, sharing a glance at everyone else in the room.

I wasn't sure what made me so special to the Hunter that made him want to constantly be at my side, or why he was so affectionate towards me. I wasn't complaining though. It felt nice to be loved like this, especially in the plagued world we're in now, even though the person loving me is infected with the plague too.  For the rest of our journey through Rayford, he stuck to me and protected me from any zombie— or human— that tried to touch me. He seemed to have developed feelings, like he was still somewhat human, and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't too.
