Chapter 20: Bad Idea!

Start from the beginning

In fact, (y/n) knew about it even before the first day in the second semester when his antics became friendly. Even before Rindo helped stand up against her parents or protect her from gangsters. Even before the countless times he considered her well-being and knew when to separate the deal with involvement into his delinquent life.

It wasn't a singular moment, it was gradual. Maybe that's the reason she was in denial for so long— that all the hatred she felt was all an act. The slow, agonizing process of respect turned to admiration turned to an unwanted emotion of amity.

How cruel... to fall in love with her enemy.

'He'll never feel the same,' her eyes widened at the subconscious thought.

That's what hit her the most. How she wanted to fight fate for falling for somebody who hates her. (Y/n) felt a sob begin to emerge so she choked it back and downturned her gaze, resulting in her (h/l) (h/c) hair covering her eyes. It was so stupid... The situation was even more stupid.

She didn't want to show vulnerability and make it awkward in front of her club president, nonetheless, so she excused the sound of pain as a choked up laugh. Returning the apologetic smile her way, (y/n) waved her hands in a sheepish manner.

"Anyways, it's not that big of a deal. I'll get over it..." the younger student mumbled the last bit and awkwardly cleared up her throat, "Thank you for listening. It helped a lot—"

"(L/n)-san, wait," the third-year interrupted with a worried expression adorning her face, "Did you even tell this person how you felt?"

"Eh?" The (e/c)-eyed girl owlishly blinked as the older female sweat-dropped, "Well, I mean, no... but it's kind of obvious. I wasn't necessarily the nicest person and they now hate everything about me. I don't have a chance."

"How do you know that if you didn't even try?" She smiled as the other stared at her both in awe and incredulousness, "(L/n)-san, if you truly want to move on, you need to know for certain if they don't return your feelings for them. You'll get closure that way— knowing that you at least tried asking if they feel the same."

Suddenly, a lightbulb lit in her mind and (y/n)'s expression softened to one of gratitude.

"You're right..." she spoke quietly before a bright grin was plastered on her face, "Thank you, Prez. I think I know how to go about it now."

"You seem cheery after unjustifiably yelling at me the past few days," Rindo brought up as he looked at the (h/c)-haired girl in suspicion, "Are you sick or something, (l/n)?"

Lunch started a few minutes ago and Rindo left to grab something to eat after sleeping throughout (y/n)'s classes; however, he was shocked seeing her in the same happily-dazed position he left her in. Standing in front of her desk, the blonde male mockingly placed his hand on her forehead. He was expecting her to snap at him, to act flustered and swat his hand away, to curse his existence and tell him to go away. A reaction, not this.

"Haitani, I'm not sick," the (y/h) teen waved her hand dismissively and grabbed her stuff, "I'm going to the club room for lunch. Are you still walking me to the station after club, by the way?"

"Huh?" Rindo blinked and refocused his attention to her whilst said female tilted her head, patiently waiting for a response, "Oh yeah, I still don't know if Shibuya Shadow is going to attack so I have to fulfill my end of the deal."

"Hmm, if that's the case, can you write down your number again?" (y/n) asked whilst she grabbed her notebook and pulled a corner of a page from it, "I don't know how long I'll stay after school so I'll just text you so I won't waste your time."
