You'd tell me, wouldn't you?

Start from the beginning

'Oh...' you looked down at the papers too, '...just old records. We're trying to see if there's anything that stands out from the suspect's past.' You stated.

'We?' Emily asked and looked around behind her. You looked past Emily to see that Hotch had left and the rest of the team were just chatting casually. You parted your lips in surprise. You didn't even notice Hotch leave.

'Oh... well, Hotch was here.' You looked back at Emily. She turned her body sideways, still keeping her head in your direction, and perched on your desk with one of her hips.

'Can I help with anything?' She asked, sensing you might need a break.

'It's okay, don't worry. I'm nearly finished up with these anyway.' You said.

'Coffee?' Emily asked. Your face lit up at the idea.

'Yes please!' You asked somewhat excitedly.

'Coming up.' She said, lifting herself from your desk and heading out to find some. You looked at the rest of the team chatting briefly.

They seem so happy.

You tore yourself away from looking at them any longer, took a deep breath, and tried to find where you were on the page before. Minutes later, you were just dropping another set of papers you'd finished examining onto your 'done' pile, when Emily joined you again.

She placed a cup of coffee in front of you, along with a takeaway box. You looked down at it, and then back up at Emily.

'What's this?' You asked.

'A bagel. I figured you might not have had breakfast yet.' She said sweetly. You looked back down at the unopened box.

'Right, yeah. Thank you.' You smiled and looked back up at her. You lingered in eye contact in silence for a second until Emily sensed you wanted to get on with your work.

'I'll let you get back to it, but let me know if you need anything. Hotch isn't sure what else we can do with this suspect, so we're just biding our time until he comes up with a plan.' Emily informed you.

'Thank you. Hopefully we'll get him talking soon.' You replied.

Emily looked briefly behind her, making sure none of the team were paying any attention to the both of you. Then she quickly reached out her hand to yours that lay on the desk. She wrapped her fingers round your hand and rubbed her thumb briefly over your hand. You smiled at each other. She withdrew her hand and pulled back, walking away to join the rest of the team on the other side of the room.

Once her attention was diverted from you, you looked at the takeaway box again. Your stomach ached with how much you wanted to have something to eat. You reached out and opened the box slightly, finding a warm and buttery bagel inside. The smell filled the space between you and the box, and you shut it again quickly before it consumed you.

You exhaled briefly, before pushing it to the side and picking your coffee up. You took the plastic lid off to find a milky coffee inside.

If it's just milk and not sugar, it's not that bad.

You lifted the cup to your mouth to take a sip. Sweetness filled your mouth and you panicked, the thought of how many calories were in this drink filling your head. Before you could even think, you were subtly spitting the coffee back into the cup, before returning the lid onto it and moving that to the side too.

You turned your body slightly away from the cup and box, deciding you were going to ignore them until they went cold and you wouldn't mind throwing them away anyway. You grabbed another pile of papers off the pile and placed them in front of you, dropping your head into your hands as you began reading through them again.
