Chapter 71: A Big Day

The next morning you woke up to the sound of excited babbling from the baby monitor. Looking over at the screen you could see JJ lying on his back grabbing hold of his feet.

"Who knew feet could be so exciting" Steve comments making you chuckle.

"Just don't go asking google that" you laugh pushing yourself out of bed.

"Shall we go say good morning to the birthday boy then?" you say smiling down at him.

"Once you give me a kiss yeah" Steve smirks looking up at you.

You crawl back onto the bed, leaning over Steve. You lean down kissing him gently, he cups your cheek bringing you down further to deepen the kiss. You smile into the kiss only pulling away when you hear an excited squeal from the baby monitor.

"We should go before those squeals become screams" you chuckle standing back up.

"Yep," Steve smiles climbing out of bed and slipping on some sweatpants and a tank top before chucking you one of his hoodies.

As you walk into the nursery you start singing happy birthday making JJ squeal as he looks over at you. He pulls himself up to stand moving slightly so it looked like he was dancing. Steve laughs picking him up out of the crib and lifting JJ up above his head making him giggle hysterically.

"Happy Birthday bean" you smile kissing the top of his head.

"Do you know how old you are? You're one! Such a big birthday" Steve smiles holding one finger to show JJ.

JJ babbles excitedly as he grabs at Steve's finger.

"Yeah that's right you're one" you chuckle gently tickling his side making him giggle and clap his hands together.

"C'mon let's get some breakfast little man" Steve smiles.

After a breakfast of JJ's favourite fruit, you got him cleaned up and his outfit you brought specifically for today. He looked absolutely adorable in his white and blue striped top and blue dungarees with a number 1 stitched onto the pocket.

You then helped him open up the presents you and Steve got him. He absolutely loved the dinosaur-shaped rocking horse, squealing with excitement when Steve helped him ride it.

By mid-day, everyone else arrived to celebrate JJ's birthday. Nat, Sam and Wanda arrived first, shortly followed by Bucky and then T'Challa, Shuri, Ramonda and Okoye. JJ loved all the attention he was getting from his aunts and uncles, opening up all the different presents they brought him. The look on his face when Wanda made red energy flow between her fingers was priceless.

By the time it got to his afternoon nap, JJ was already fast asleep on Steve's chest. His small hand gripped his shirt as he nuzzled his face into his neck. You couldn't miss the opportunity to take a photo of the two of them.

Once he woke back up you brought out the cake you made for him. You held him as everyone sang him happy birthday before helping blow out the candles, stopping him when he made a grab for them. You cut everyone a slice before you all sat down to eat, everyone laughing as JJ smushed the majority of his slice over his face.

After you cleaned him back up you set him down on the floor to play with his new toys. The rest of you sat down to chat and eat some of the food everyone had brought.

You were sitting cuddled up to Steve talking to Bucky when you heard Wanda gasp. You look over at her to see her pointing at JJ, who was standing up in the middle of the floor. You all waited silently not even daring to take a breath to see if he would take his first steps. JJ wobbled slightly before taking a tentative step towards his rocking horse. The first one was followed by a second and then another until he reached his rocking horse, everyone cheering when he got there making JJ look around confused.
