Chapter 75: The Ones Left Behind

"That was the first time wasn't it," Nat says quietly.

"Yeah... yeah, it was" Steve sighs standing up and walking over to JJ, lifting him out of his chair.

"And dada is so proud of you, and I can't wait for mama to hear you," Steve says deciding that he was going to do whatever he needed to get those stones and get you back.

"Mama?" JJ asks.

"yes, I'll get her back I promise" Steve states kissing the top of JJ's head.

It was the next morning that Steve and Nat arrived at the compound. Once the jet landed everyone came out to help unload the jet.

"Is this everything?" Bruce asks walking aboard.

"The essentials yeah, Okoye said they'd ship the rest over as soon as they could," Steve says lifting JJ onto his hip before stepping out of the jet.

As he steps off the ramp he spots Thor walking outside slowly. As he looked up Steve saw his brows furrow as he walked straight over to them. He pointed over at JJ in confusion.

"Who- who is this?" Thor asks clearing his throat.

"This is James or JJ, JJ this is your uncle Thor," Steve says getting JJ to look over at Thor.

"He's- he's your son? You and Y/N had a kid?" Thor asks in surprise.

"Yeah we did," Steve said with a small smile.

"Can I hold him?" Thor asks hesitantly.

"Yeah of course" Steve nods passing JJ over to Thor.

Thor looked down at JJ with a stunned expression as JJ looked back up in amazement. His little hands reached up to tug on Thor's beard earning a deep chuckle from the god.

"How old is he?" Thor asks.

"Just gone 1," Steve tells him, making Thor smile slightly.

"I can remember when Y/N was this small" Thor sighs shaking his head.

"We'll get them back, we'll get the stones and use them to bring everyone back," Steve tells him.

Thor nods slightly before dropping his head "it's my fault, I should have gone for the head" he sighs.

"No, it's not, there are lots of things we all could have done," Steve says shaking his head.

Thor sighs shakily "if I get the chance I'll finish the job, get Y/N back and make Loki's sacrifice worthwhile" he states.

"Bruce told me about what he did to help defeat Hela," Steve says.

"Yeah he tried to stop Thanos but it got him killed, and I think it was real this time" Thor sighs shaking his head.

"I'm sorry, I know he meant a lot to the both of you," Steve says.

"Thanks Steve" Thor nods.

"Dada" JJ then yawns looking over at Steve.

"I should probably set him down for a nap, it's been a hectic couple of days for him," Steve says taking JJ back from Thor.

"Can I help?" Thor asks hesitantly.

"Yeah sure his travel cot is on the jet, you could grab that" Steve suggests nodding over to the jet.

"On it" Thor smiles heading over to the jet.

As Steve stepped inside his old room he was taken aback at how everything was exactly how it had been left. There was even one of his hoodies strewn across the chair in the corner. A half-read book on your nightstand.
